The Sunken Cell Arrives in Anthem

By Rebecca Smith, 1 month ago
Two weeks ago, BioWare teased a new stronghold for Anthem. Dubbed "The Sunken", little else was known about the four-player end-game adventure, they promised to reveal more details about it last week. Those details failed to emerge. Instead, the stronghold has made a surprise appearance today alongside patch 1.1.0, and it's now called The Sunken Cell.

Again, few details about the stronghold are available, although there will be a developer stream later that shows off the stronghold and some of the other improvements in the patch. Those improvements include the ability to select contracts from the start of expedition screen, while, the end of expedition screen allows players to launch a new mission. The Forge is also now accessible during Missions, Strongholds and Freeplay so players can change gear. All of these now mean players no longer have to travel to Fort Tarsis or the Launch Bay to perform those tasks. You can see a full list of gameplay improvements and fixes here.

While the update did indeed arrive today, there are some other features that aren't as lucky. The content roadmap revealed back in February included features like the Mastery System, Guilds, Legendary Missions, Weekly Stronghold Challenges, Leaderboards, Freeplay Events, and the Cataclysm. With the exception of the first phase of the Legendary Missions, all of these features have been delayed in favour of "prioritizing things like bug fixes, stability and game flow". Those improvements will continue to include the loot and progression systems, and the team promises to share more information when they can.

Next month will bring news on the Cataclysm, which will include new challenges, rewards, and story. In the meantime, PC players will soon be able to participate in a Player Feedback Environment (PFE) that allows them to provide opinions on some of the game's upcoming major features. As soon as we hear anymore details on any of the new content, we'll be sure to let you know.
