Star Trek Online Rise of Discovery Focuses on Lorca and Landry

By Rebecca Smith,
Back in March, the Mirror of Discovery update continued the Age of Discovery story arc in Star Trek Online. The next update, titled Rise of Discovery, looks to further the arc even further as it ventures into the events that happened after the end of the first season of Star Trek: Discovery, especially in regards to unanswered questions surrounding two of the U.S.S Discovery's crew members, Captain Gabriel Lorca and Commander Ellen Landry.

Rise of Discovery will once again introduce two new episodes that aim to uncover Captain Gabriel Lorca's past before he joined the U.S.S. Discovery, and it will be told through the eyes of his commanding officer, Commander Ellen Landry. Both were initially assigned to U.S.S. Buran before they were beamed aboard the U.S.S. Discovery. When the ship suffered heavy damage in an attack from Klingon forces and Lorca became the sole survivor, he was stranded on an ice moon with many Klingon search parties trying to track him down. Players must team up with Commander Landry to rescue him.

The update will also introduce a new Tier 6 reputation, Discovery Legends. This reputation allows players to complete Task Force Operations and earn Discovery-themed rewards. When the update arrives, it will also scale Tier 6 starships to the levels of an individual player, meaning that all players can access the game's best ships.

More details on the update have been promised closer to release. Rise of Discovery will arrive on PC on May 15th. Going on the normal release schedule, console players will likely have to wait until late June/early July before they can give it a go.
