When Oddworld Inhabitants' Lorne Lanning and Bennie Terry took to the stage at GDC 2019 in March, they showed off a cinematic sequence from their upcoming title Oddworld: Soulstorm, the follow up to Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty and the second in a planned quintology. The cinematic showed Alf and Toby as they frantically tried to escape pursuing enemies on a monorail across the desert. We left them facing an uncertain future as they ran out of fuel and railtrack. Today's trailer features the industrial hell towards which they were hurtling, and the gameplay shows just what kind of chaos both the duo, Abe, and players can expect at their destination.
Regardless of whether you freed the Mudokons or took great joy in leading them to their death in New 'n' Tasty, Soulstorm picks up the story after Abe has freed 300 Mudokons from RuptureFarms. The problem is that while they've escaped the slavery and horrible conditions of the meat factory, they now find themselves in the desert with no food, water, or shelter. Their journey leads them to discover a new beverage known as Soulstorm Brew. The bad news is it's highly addictive and it doesn't help their bid for freedom. The good news is that it's also highly flammable and Abe seems to find a perfect use for it according to the gameplay and following screenshots.
Oddworld: Soulstorm will bring its battle against "environmentalism, capitalism, consumerism and addiction" to consoles next year.
