Metro Exodus Story-Driven DLC Begins This Summer

By Rebecca Smith,
Metro Exodus' Expansion Pass was revealed long before the game was released, but aside from telling us that we could "discover new adventures in the post-apocalyptic Russian wilderness", we knew nothing else about what to expect. That's all changed today as publisher Deep Silver has revealed two "major" pieces of story-driven DLC that will expand upon the game's story through the eyes of two different characters. Suffice to say, if you have not yet completed the game's campaign, the following DLC descriptions contain spoilers.

Expansion Pass

The first story expansion is called "The Two Colonels" and it's a linear chapter. Players will assume the role of Colonel Khlebnikov, a brand new character, as he tries to make his way home from under the surface of the abandoned city of Novosibirsk. The problem is that the city's tunnels are succumbing to the slime and increased mutant attacks. The "green stuff" that protects survivors from radiation poisoning is running out, so Khlebnikov decides to join his son, Kirill, at home for New Year's Eve. The DLC chapter will include a new flame-thrower weapon and tightly-packed environments. "The Two Colonels" will arrive this summer.

The second story expansion has been dubbed "Sam’s Story" and this takes the form of a sandbox survival level. Unsurprisingly, the DLC follows the story of American Spartan Ranger Sam. A former US Marine who was based at the Moscow embassy, he wishes to return to his home country. When the Spartans realise Moscow wasn't the only city to survive the ravages of war, he vows to find his way back to the US. This means travelling through Vladivostok’s ruined harbours and the derelict industrial buildings that surround them, as well as the abandoned residential districts that hide their own dangers. This DLC will arrive early next year.

Both of the story expansions are included in the game's Expansion Pass, but they can also be purchased separately for an unknown cost. If you feel like grabbing hold of the Expansion Pass now that you know what's in it, you can do so below:

Finally some damn news. I was starting to think the game flopped so badly that they abandoned all planned DLC content.

Need to get back to this game to play it on the hardest difficulty and knock out some achievements.

I would like to play this game, but as it seems there are still major problems with crashes on the One X. Or has this been fixed?

The game hasn’t crashed once on my One X yet. I’m about halfway through the game.

They claimed to have fixed the crashing issues but i had to replay a couple of levels several times on my Iron Mode run due to said crashes. This was a month or so ago so i don't know if another update has been deployed recently.

That's why i had to take a break from it, the crashed were killing my Iron Mode run, might just move the game to my X1 S and play the rest there but i needed a break from it.

Me too... Started a ranger hardcore run but by the time I did that I had already played 1.5 playthrough's so I jumped ship to other wastelands of gaming. Think a return trip is in order.

Yay! Can’t wait for both of these! When playing, I really wanted Sam’s story to be expanded! Feel like he didn’t get as much action as the rest of the Spartans.

Really fun and good looking game, but I never got the vibes from the atmosphere that I longed for from the first 2 games. Didn't have as much bleak and despair type feelings like most survival games do.

Excited to get back to it though regardless.

Loved the main game and both expansions sound interesting. Though, if I'm being honest, it's disappointing to hear that Sam's Story won't release until 2020.

If there's only going to be two pieces of DLC and released with such a large delay between them, then there is little reason to buy the expansion pass. Might as well buy them separately when they come out.
