Destiny 2 Season of Opulence Begins Next Week

By Rebecca Smith,
Destiny 2's Season of the Drifter ends soon, and it's due to be replaced with the third and final season of Destiny 2: Forsaken. Season of Opulence begins next week and will bring new challenges, weapons, loot, Iron Banner quests, the Solstice of Heroes event, lore, and plenty of content for Annual Pass holders.

Season of Opulence

There will be a variety of free content and content locked to the Annual Pass. All players will have access to the new seasonal Quest in Iron Banner, where there's a chance to unlock new armour. A reset of seasonal ranks in Crucible, Gambit, and Vanguard will allow players to earn a new set of Pinnacle weapons, and there will be plenty of other challenges, loot, and lore to be found. On July 30th, the Solstice of Heroes event will return, with more new rewards to be earned.

The season begins for Annual Pass owners when they claim the Imperial Summons from Benedict-44 in the Tower. These will grant access to the Emperor's Lost Vaults, a new location within the Leviathan that contains Catacombs filled with treasure. All players who have completed the Forsaken campaign will be able to try the new quest and a new six-player activity known as Menagerie. Successfully completing the quest will reward players with Power Surge gear at 690 power so that they're adequately prepared for the new activity.

Players will be able to matchmake with friends or random players to take on Menagerie. Those who triumph in the new mode will be able to use the Chalice of Opulence to trade runes for weapons and armour of their choice. As players upgrade the Chalice, they'll be able to claim more powerful rewards that will eventually reach 750 power. Throughout June, more Menagerie bosses will be added, and a new Heroic difficulty will be introduced on June 25th. Those who want to take on Heroic difficulty won't benefit from matchmaking, though — you'll need to create a team yourself to take on this difficulty.

As seen in the roadmap above, there will be more Quests that reward Exotic gear, and a new Tribute Hall to explore as the season continues. There will be Moments of Triumph to take on, and the season will conclude with a free Gambit weekend. You can get a glimpse of some of this content in the season's trailer:

The Season of Opulence begins for all players on June 4th.
