Destiny 2 Season of Opulence Starts Today

By Rebecca Smith, 2 months ago
The Season of the Drifter is well and truly over in Destiny 2. It's now time for the Season of Opulence, a new season that introduces new challenges, weapons, loot, Iron Banner quests, and lore beginning today.

Season of Opulence

New activity Menagerie pits six Guardians against a variety of enemies in Emperor Calus' maze-like arena, unsurprisingly also called Menagerie. Those Guardians will need to travel through the system in a hunt for treasure and the power of the Chalice of Opulence, which can be upgraded as players become more successful. Replayability is offered in the ever-changing paths and enemies as you work towards the armour and weapons you want the most from the Chalice of Opulence.

As well as new weapons, armour, and pinnacle gear, there's a new raid in the form of Crown of Sorrow, where players seek valuable treasure in the underbelly of the Leviathan. The raid introduces World First races into the game where players try out the raids for the first time and race to be the first team to complete them. To make this as fair a contest as possible, there will be a new Contest mode that enforces the same rules for everyone. While the mode is active, players who are levelled beyond a set Power level will not have an advantage in the raid's fights; for example, if the fight is capped at power level 700, a player at power level 720 will only have the benefits of a level 700 player. The raid begins at 4 PM PDT today, June 4th, and the Contest mode lasts for the first 24 hours of the raid's release. Once that period is over, the normal Power/Raid relationship will return for players to get a better advantage. You can check out the raid itself in the trailer below.

A free game update also arrived today for all players. The update brings a power surge so Forsaken players can quickly reach the level required to access the new content. There's also the return of Iron Banner, and plenty of exotic weapons and armour to earn. You can see a full list of all of the gameplay improvements and bug fixes in the full patch notes.

The Season of Opulence is available now.
