Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Trailer Explores Hoarfrost Reach

By Rebecca Smith,
Monster Hunter: World will be heading into the snowy landscapes of Hoarfrost Reach when "Iceborne" arrives in September. The latest trailer gives players a glimpse of this new location, as well as some of the new monsters they'll be facing.

"Iceborne" continues the storyline from that of the main game. Players will once again team up with the Research Commission to explore a new undiscovered land. Hoarfrost Reach is the largest map in the game and is home to monsters players won't have seen before. After they get a rare sighting of the Legiana, which is usually found in the Ancient Forest, players head through the snow and ice to set up a base camp in Seliana. Here they can warm themselves by the fire and gather all of the resources and equipment they'll need to take on these new foes.

The new monsters include the Shrieking Legiana, an extreme variant of the ordinary Legiana in the main game. This monster is covered in frost, and it uses this to freeze the air around it, making it harder for hunters to attack. There's also the return of the Tigrex, a flying wyvern with an ear-splitting roar that was first seen (and heard) in Monster Hunter Freedom 2. More monsters will be revealed in the future.

Players who are lucky enough to be heading to E3 will be able to get their hands on a demo showing three new quests, all weapon types and new gameplay options, and the Clutch Claw. Of those three quests, you can take down the Great Jagras, the Banbaro, or the returning Tigrex. If you'll be waiting until the expansion is released to take down these foes, you'll need to make sure you've reached Hunter Rank 16 to get access to the new story and quests, although some gameplay options and weapon updates will be available regardless of your level.

"Iceborne" is available for pre-order now before its release on September 6th. Players can purchase the expansion separately for US$39.99 / €39.99, or grab the Digital Deluxe version that includes the expansion and the "Deluxe Kit" with bonus cosmetic items. The latter is priced at US$49.99 / €49.99. Those who are new to the game can pre-order the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition instead, which includes a copy of the main game and the "Iceborne" expansion — this will be priced at US$59.99 / €59.99.
