Yesterday, THQ Nordic teased they would be revealing three new titles across the remaining three days of this week. The first of those titles has now been revealed, and it's not exactly what we'd call a new title. SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom was originally released in 2003 on PlayStation 2, Xbox, Gamecube, PC, and GameBoy Advance. Nearly 16 years later, the game is heading to Xbox One as SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated as a remaster you didn't know you wanted.
The game puts players in the roles of SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy as they try to quash Plankton's evil plan to use robots to rule over Bikini Bottom. As well as the three playable characters, which will each have their own skills, players can meet up with "countless" characters from the SpongeBob series. You'll still be able to use bubbles to defeat the robots, and you'll also be able to underpants bungee jump.
Purple Lamp Studios is in charge of the remake, which will get improved graphics and polished gameplay that is more befitting of the current generation of consoles. There will also be content that was cut from the original title, such as a Robo Squidward boss fight. Finally, there will be a new multiplayer horde mode for two players, which will be playable either in split-screen or online.
The game doesn't yet have a release date, but we do know the game won't be making an appearance at E3. In the meantime, THQ Nordic has promised another announcement for tomorrow, so stay tuned to the front page for the latest news as we get it.
We don't have them yet, but we'll publish a story as soon as we pick up the SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated achievements.
