Over the past few years, Microsoft hasn't been afraid to let smaller studios share the publicity of appearing on its E3 stage next to the bigger budget first and third party AAA publishers. Yesterday was no different, with a number of upcoming ID@Xbox titles appearing alongside the likes of Halo Infinite, Gears 5 and Forza Horizon 4.
One such title shown yesterday was the upcoming release from Thunder Lotus Games called Spiritfarer, which pulled off the unenviable task of following Keanu Reeves' appearance to reveal the release date of Cyberpunk 2077.
In the trailer below, you can see the colourful hand-drawn animation, and take a first look at the 2D side-scrolling adventure game that will allow players to build, care, explore and "learn to say goodbye".
Still puzzled after watching the trailer? Hopefully, the description from the developer will clear things up.
In Spiritfarer, you play Stella, ferrymaster to the deceased. Build a boat to explore the world, then befriend and care for spirits before finally releasing them into the afterlife. Farm, mine, fish, harvest, cook, and craft your way across mystical seas. Join the adventure as Daffodil the cat, in two-player cooperative play. Spend relaxing quality time with your spirit passengers, create lasting memories, and, ultimately, learn how to say goodbye to your cherished friends.
Spiritfarer is expected to release on the Xbox One in 2020 and will be available in Xbox Game Pass on day one.
We don't have them yet, but we'll publish a story as soon as we pick up the Spiritfarer achievements.
