Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order takes place between Star Wars Order 66 and Episode IV. Protagonist Cal Kestis escaped the Emperor's Operation to turn all of the clones on the Jedi, but when he's outed, he becomes an enemy of the state. Together with his explorer droid companion, BD-1, he'll need to battle his way to safety. Respawn's Director, Stig Asmussen, explains some of the inspirations behind the game, as well as going into more detail about the combat moves players will need to perfect to survive:
The combat draws the most inspiration from the original Star Wars trilogy, but as it's a game, Cal's moves will be more powerful than anything seen in the films. Amongst his abilities are throwing his lightsaber like a boomerang, slowing down time with Force Slow, and pulling enemies towards him with Force Pull. These abilities can be upgraded through the game's large skill tree, although more information on this mechanic will be discussed at a later date. The skill tree will be accessible at meditation points, where players can also replenish their health and trigger a checkpoint.
IGN also went into more detail on the game's combat. If players want to survive, they'll need to master the art of combos, parries, and counters. Players can deflect Stormtrooper blaster shots with a simple press of a button, but to deflect those shots back at the enemy, they'll need to hit that button at exactly the right moment. Three-hit combos will activate with perfectly timed successive button presses, counters are earned through perfect dodge and attack moves, and finisher moves are triggered by blocking at the right time during a melee strike.
Thanks to the influence of Disney, players will not be able to dismember humanoid enemies. At least players will be able to remove the limbs of droids and spiders, though, as long as they perfect the moves required to do this. You'll be able to get your hands on the game on November 15th.
We don't have them yet, but we'll publish a story as soon as we pick up the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order achievements.
