TrueAchievements Now Supports the New Xbox Gamertag System By Rich Stone, 14 Jun 2019 FollowtopicsCommunity NewsSite FeatureRich Stone On Tuesday Microsoft announced that they were making some big changes to the Xbox gamertags system. We’ve been working hard to implement these changes here on TrueAchievements from the moment we heard the announcement, and we’re pleased to say that we have just put that new code live. There are two main changes to gamertags that Microsoft announced:International character set support in gamertagsIf you’ve updated your gamertag (or registered a new one) to include International characters, we now support those gamertags here on TrueAchievements. International gamertag supportTo force our scanners to pick up your new gamertag, click on the Request Update link in your gamer dropdown menu.Once we’ve picked up the change — it should be almost instant — you’ll get a friend feed notification of your new tag, and the new tag will be displayed everywhere on the site. Your gamer page URLs will change to the new tag too, so please be aware of that if you have your TA gamer page bookmarked anywhere.Discord-style non-unique gamertagsThis change has been more controversial, as you can see from the comments on our announcement article. Please note: if you have an existing tag that you don’t want to change, you should see no changes to the way your tag is displayed anywhere on the site, and your gamer page links should be the same as they have always been. For gamers on the new system that do have the hash and digits on the end of their gamertag, we’ve tried our best to implement this new system in a way which is as unobtrusive as possible. We will continue to use the “base” version of these gamertags (without the hash and digits added to the end) in the vast majority of the site. We will only show the “full” version of the gamertag (including the hash and digits) if your tag clashes with an existing tag on TrueAchievements, and only in the following parts of the site:Gamer headers on gamer homepagesForum threadsSolutions and CommentsHover cardsLeaderboardsDiscord style Xbox gamertag support on gamer pagesDiscord style Xbox gamertag support in the forumsDiscord style Xbox gamertag support on leaderboardsWe are choosing to show the full gamertags in these places initially as we want to prevent impersonation of other TrueAchievements users, without spoiling the aesthetics of the rest of the site.Warning – implementing these changes has been a huge undertakingIt is no exaggeration to say that the update we have just put live is the biggest single update we’ve made in the history of TrueAchievements. It contains over 600 database changes, and over 1,500 code routines have changed. Three of us have been working on this solidly since the announcement was made at E3, and we've clocked up over 100 hours of gamertag-related development between us in the last 3 and a half days. Every single place a linked gamertag was shown on the site has had to be changed to include the unique link to the gamer page from the non-unique gamertag. There will definitely be places where we have missed things, or left the old gamer link in place. If you find any problems (bad links are going to be the most common issue), please post details in this thread and we'll do our best to get them fixed as soon as possible. Thanks for your support!Site FeatureCommunity NewsXbox LIVE Written by Rich StoneYo! Rich here - I was the one that created TrueAchievements back in 2008 as I felt the Xbox Gamerscore system could be improved. The site has evolved massively since then and it's now the biggest and best Xbox community on the planet! Racing games and open world shooters are my thing, but I'll give most genres a go. Except RPGs - those things are evil.
