Playground Games might have been notably absent from E3 aside from the second Forza Horizon 4 DLC LEGO Speed Champions, but their RPG project is certainly attracting some big names behind the scenes, according to a recent LinkedIn announcement.
Neil Davies was a senior lighting artist for Rockstar North while Red Dead Redemption 2 was wrapping up development — we don't know his exact contributions but given the calibre of the lighting in everyone's favourite cowboy game, we know that this mysterious RPG will probably be beautifully lit.
Michael Leone, meanwhile, was a Game Designer for Rockstar until just after Red Dead's release last year. He's got a pretty wide range of technical and design skills so we're not surprised to see him take on the role of Principle Technical Designer at Playground.
Finally — and this is a particularly interesting one — Tom Maddocks joins the team as an Audio Designer. Tom has worked with Ubisoft Massive and freelanced for PlayStation, working on the audio for PlayStation VR Worlds. But significantly, Tom got his break working for Lionhead as an Audio Intern and later Designer. The project? Fable Legends.
Alright, it's probably just a coincidence. But we still haven't the foggiest idea what the Playground Games RPG project actually is, and with a noticeable lack of the words "new IP" in any official press, we're still thinking this is more than likely Fable. Whatever it is, Playground is giving The Initiative a run for its money for nabbing excellent talent from other studios.
Playground are also hiring for a heck of a lot of roles, which means we're likely still a good way off seeing the final product. You can see all of those roles here.
