Contracts Arrive in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

By Rebecca Smith,
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 players have been telling Treyarch they want more ways to earn in-game rewards. The result is the introduction of Contracts in this week's game update, and they offer challenges for players to complete across Multiplayer, Blackout, Zombies, and World League.

Each of the four game modes will offer a Daily Contract and six other Contracts, meaning players have a total of 28 Contracts to complete at any time. Three of those Contracts can be active at once, a Daily Contract and two others. Any Contract can be swapped out for another and progress will initally be kept. However, Contracts are refreshed "at a regular interval", and any progress made towards inactive Contracts will expire with them. Daily Contracts are automatically replaced with a new Contract whether they are active or not. If the other Contracts are active, they will not expire until they're completed or swapped out for another.

There are two types of other Contracts: Standard and Hard. Standard Contracts offer a moderate challenge with the aim being to complete it quickly. Hard Contracts aim to put players skills to the test but will offer better rewards, such as Reserve Cases, bonus XP, Nebulium Plasma in Zombies, and Merits for Blackout. The Daily Contracts replace Daily Callings in Zombies mode, and while players can continue to earn Daily Tier Skips in all modes, the second Tier Skip in Zombies is now tied to the Daily Contract.

Contracts

As well as the Contracts, there have been other changes to Multiplayer mode, including a variety of weapon tuning changes. The Morocco and Summit maps have been added to the rotation for Prop Hunt mode, while Frequency and Jungle are now in the Capture the Flag rotation. There's a new map in rotation too: Hacienda Twilight, an alternate-lighting version of Hacienda. The map is now bathed in moonlight, but the interior is quite dark, lit only by fires. There are also structural changes and "other new surprises" to find.

In Blackout, players will now receive Medals for completing certain tasks like reviving team mates, assists, eliminating a Duo or Quad, killing zombies, and multikills. Each Medal gives players Merits to use too. Players who complete any Outfit Mission will also get the new Numbers Death Effect to use across several modes once it's been applied in Create-a-Class and/or the Armory. If you've already completed an Outfit Mission, you'll find your reward in your inventory already.

The Sentry has been added to Blackout. It deals lower damage than it would in Multiplayer and is intended to be more of an alert system or nuisance. The item can be found in Stashes and Supply Drops. Humiliations have also been added for Alcatraz and Hot Pursuit in Blackout, and Heist mode in Multiplayer. The finishing moves can be used against downed enemies to add more flair to your kills. As PlayStation 4 is a week ahead of Xbox, we get a glimpse at some of the content we can expect next week. Firstly, Blackjack's Stash will be introduced to Blackout's limited time modes. Players can find them in game, and they'll contain one of the Black Market weapons you have in to your collection. In the future, players will be able to expand their Black Market collection with the new Ultra Weapon Bribes that can be earned in the Contraband stream and future Operations. These first reward players with a Black Market weapon they don’t own. If players own all of the Black Market weapons, they'll get a MKII Weapon, Mastercraft, or another variant they haven't unlocked instead.

Zombies didn't get any more changes this week, but there will be the new Hard Mode Unsinkable Gauntlet next week. If you manage to complete the Hard Mode Gauntlets, you'll get double Nebulium Plasma rewards, exclusive Medals, and Calling Cards. Finally, a new Zombie DLC will be released on July 16th. The DLC follows on from the events of Blood of the Dead and Classified. More details have been promised for later this week.
