Alleged Capcom Email Sparks Resident Evil Rumours

Update: Capcom are now also recruiting testers based in New York and Los Angeles. The tests will be taking place later than those in Japan. There'll be one in Los Angeles on either September 20th or 21st, and one in New York several days later on either September 23rd or 24th. The email again refers to "a new game in early development", and again specifies that applicants must be registered in the Resident Evil Ambassador Program, and have experience playing a Resident Evil game. Capcom also specifies that applicants will be responsible for their own travel arrangements and costs, and that they'll contact successful applicants separately. This information comes via a tweet from Twitch Affiliate streamer Patrick Copeland:

Original Story:

The Resident Evil series has always been enormously popular, and continues to be so, especially with the release of the remake of Resident Evil 2.

Fans are tentatively getting their hopes up again with the news that Capcom's Division 1, the team behind the series, have sent out requests for Resident Evil fans to test an untitled game.

This information comes from Biohaze, a long-running fan-site for the series. The website shows an email allegedly sent to Resident Evil Ambassadors based in Japan, and gives a brief translation. The email states that Capcom are searching for testers — specifically Resident Evil Ambassadors who have prior experience with playing the series. The tests will apparently take place on either September 8th or September 9th. There is of course no information yet as to what the game may be, and the email is in no way a definite statement that a new Resident Evil game is in the works — especially since it has only been roughly translated. But if the email is legitimate, it is intriguing that Capcom are asking for Resident Evil fans specifically.

Given the success of Resident Evil 7 and the remake of Resident Evil 2, it's unsurprising that Capcom might be rolling up to another game. But will it be yet another remake, a spin-off or a full-blown sequel? Let us know what you think in the comments.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
