Trine 4 Will Be Out In October

By Heidi Nicholas, 12 days ago
Amadeus the Wizard, Pontius the Knight and Zoya the Thief became an unlikely trio at the Astral Academy in the first Trine game. In Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince they're back together to rescue the missing Prince Selius. As the title suggests, it's unlikely to be that easy.

The platform puzzle game releases on October 8th. The game has a definite nightmarish overtone, and October is a fitting month for the 4th installment of the Trine series. Steam gives more background context for the game. The prince they're trying to rescue is no ordinary man. Prince Selius is afflicted with dark and disturbing dreams, and his magical abilities enable his nightmares to cross over into reality. These nightmares then spread chaos and fear, and Amadeus, Pontius, and Zoya must find Selius not only for his own good, but to stop his darkness from spreading across the world.

Don't think it's all going to be gloom and doom, however. The Trine games typically take place in magical settings with jaunty Medieval-sounding music in the background. This fairytale-style backdrop is continued in Trine 4. The trio venture across numerous expansive and colourful backdrops, encountering cheerful animals with a slightly Wind-in-the-Willows aesthetic.

The platformer puzzle game displays levels in 2.5 dimensions, and promises new skills and new combat, along with new multiplayer where up to 4 people can play together online or in local co-op. The Trine: Ultimate Collection will arrive alongside Trine 4 on October 8th, and both are available to purchase now. The Trine: Ultimate Collection includes the complete Trine series: Trine Enchanted Edition, Trine 2: Complete Story, Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power, and Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince. Pre-ordering it will provide players with additional content, such as the download code for the series' original soundtrack.

We don't have them yet, but we'll publish a story as soon as we pick up the Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince achievements.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
