UPDATE: Leaked Trailer Fuels Next More Plants vs. Zombies Rumours

Update:
A new trailer has been leaked adding to the current rumours of a new entry into the Plants vs. Zombies series. Plants vs. Zombies Battle for Neighborville had previously been trademarked in a European trademark filing, and now a new trailer for the game has been uploaded to YouTube.

The trailer is far from the finished product. The words "TEMP GAME FOOTAGE" and various file names are plastered all over the video.

It's hard to tell what the game might be. From the trailer, it looks as if Battle for Neighborville could be a team-based hero shooter, with various characters such as a roller-skating disco zombie and a ninja-mushroom.

If we hear of any more updates we will let you know!

Original Story:
EA has recently trademarked a term for what looks like its next instalment in the Plants vs. Zombies series.
PvZ GW2 Characters 3

The title "Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neigborville" was found in a filing on the European Union's Intellectual Property Office Website. Although the document doesn't contain much information, we can see that the trademark was filed on August 9th.

This comes off the back of recent news that EA was sending out invites to a closed Alpha Playtest to its community playtesters. The invites didn't specifically mention a new Plants vs. Zombies game, but the alpha — codenamed Picnic — described it as a "new PvZ shooter" from the team behind Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare. Screenshots also surfaced of the Alpha schedule which included a game mode called "Turf Take Over" — so it certainly sounds like it could a be a new entry into the series.

Much like a patent filing, just because a name has been trademarked, it doesn't necessarily mean that we will definitely be getting a game of that name or a new game at all, but with the recent alpha playtesting news, that seems unlikely.

Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 proved a popular title gaining a Metacritic score of 80, although the game does have five discontinued achievements.

We don't know if this will be a spin-off or a full sequel to Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2, but we will keep you in the know as soon as we find out.
