Site Performance and Charts Update

By Jack Watling, 1 month ago
While we haven't added many new features to the site recently, we have been working very hard behind the scenes on improving the performance of the website, especially on mobile.

Over the last month we've completely rewritten the javascript that runs the site, removing our dependency on the large jquery library. This has resulted in much smaller page sizes but without any loss of functionality.

Taking the Fortnite Achievements page as an example, with these changes we've reduced the javascript size by around 65% on mobile and desktop.

Before After
Mobile118KB 42KB
Desktop145KB 49KB
And today we've pushed out an update that moves the charts and graphs displayed on site over to more modern, responsive, and lightweight library, again massively reducing the time needed to download each page that contains a chart:

We'll have more performance related updates coming soon, so keep your eyes peeled.
