Need For Speed Heat Is Confirmed To Have No Lootboxes

By Heidi Nicholas, 1 month ago
Reddit user F8RGE, otherwise known as Ghost, has confirmed on Reddit that Need For Speed Heat will have no lootboxes or surprise mechanics, and will not do so in the future.

NFS Heat

Titled "Under the Hood: NFS Heat", F8RGE's post divulges more information about the upcoming game. One of the most notable pieces of information is that the speed cards from NFS Payback won't be featuring in NFS Heat. Customisation options can be earned in-game. "You spot a street race on your map and notice it has a new performance part up for grabs. Win the race, win the part" says F8RGE. This is reassuring enough, but F8RGE goes on in the comments to confirm that "There are no Lootboxes in NFS Heat and there won't be". When another user asked about Surprise Mechanics, F8RGE replied "None of those too".

F8RGE is very communicative on Reddit and a reliable source, showing up as a Global Community Lead for Star Wars Battlefront and a Global Community Engagement Manager for Battlefield. F8RGE's NFS posts don't have a similar title next to the author name, but in a separate reply F8RGE confirmed that they also "run community" for NFS.

Several people were suspicious of this information, and questioned whether microtransactions would still feature. F8RGE replied again to explain that they "plan to have post launch paid-DLC in the form of car packs" and later "a time-save pack", but reassures that "Honestly, that's it. No loot boxes".

There you have it, three times confirmed by F8RGE: no lootboxes or microtransactions in NFS Heat, and none looming in the future either. The post also gives more details about other aspects of the game. "The choice between day and night is entirely your call" and players can "simply head to your garage" to choose day or night. Daytime sounds like the more lawful option. The behaviour of the cops will change depending on the time of day, and whilst they'll still be watchful in the daytime, they'll "have a more casual presence...leave them alone and they'll return the favour". Daytime will also have players "competing for bank in the Speedhunters Showdown... A series of events that will have you racing and drifting your way to a big payday." When night falls, however, "you’ll be wanting to swap out legitimate events for those of a more underground nature". Likewise, the police presence will change and players will be dealing with "a rogue task force" at night, a task force which needs "no excuse to hunt you, and your car down". Nightime is also when players will be boosting their REP.

Overall, F8RGE's post gives a lot of reassurance. What do you think? Are you excited for NFS Heat? Let us know in the comments!

We don't have them yet, but we'll publish a story as soon as we pick up the Need for Speed Heat achievements.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
