Blair Witch, Control, Decay of Logos: There's A Lot To Look Forward To Next Week

By Heidi Nicholas,
It's an exciting lineup for releases next week. From the medieval The Bard's Tale IV: Director's Cut to the futuristic sci-fi Control, there's a lot to look forward to. Here's 4 we're particularly interested in:

Control is one of those games where the more is released about it, the more questions you have. We talked about its latest trailer, which featured a lot of bizarre enemies and laws-of-physics-defying events. This seems to be one of the key themes of Control: the supernatural. Protagonist Jesse Faden is suddenly given the role of Director at the highly secretive Federal Bureau of Control. An important setting for the game is The Oldest House, a Place of Power, which has come under attack by an unnatural, unidentifable enemy known only as the Hiss. The Hiss are a bodiless force which can apparently take over human bodies. They can also disrupt matter, which perhaps is the reason why Jesse can apparently float through air. However, she may have powers of her own; and she can certainly be seen wielding reality-distorting weapons. Little about the game's story is clear, but it seems that Jesse's mission is to regain Control. The game releases on August 27th. Will you be helping her?

The Bard's Tale IV: Director's Cut

"After a century of peace, evil once again threatens Skara Brae". So begins the trailer for The Bard's Tale IV, the sequel to one the classic Bard's Tle games, a trilogy definitive of the RPG genre. Players recruit or build a party and travel from the "bustling port of Skara Brae to the Baedish Lowlands, the haunted Forest of Inshriach, and the icy Isle of Stronsea" to defeat this evil uprising. Bard's Tale IV comes to Xbox Game Pass straight away on its release date of August 27th.

Blair Witch

Blair Witch takes players back to 1996 as Ellis, a former police officer, who joined the search for a missing boy. Unfortunately, that search takes him to the Black Hills Forest. The horrifying minions lurking in the woods have a more physical presence, as Ellis can apparently use his torch against them as a safeguard or temporary weapon. It might not be a good idea to rely on the torch too much, though; it wouldn't be a horror game without the torch temperamentally flickering just when you need it to work most. Luckily, Ellis isn't going in alone. Unluckily, he's accompanied by his dog Bullet, which immediately ramps up the fear of anything bad happening to the canine companion. Bullet will help players in a number of ways, such as alerting them to items of interest, and being able to manoeuvre into places that Ellis can't. Blair Witch will also be arriving straight into Xbox Game Pass on its release on August 30th.

Decay of Logos

A complete contrast to Blair Witch, Decay of Logos is a beautiful RPG. It's about a young girl, Ada, and her quest for revenge after an attack on her village. The only clue that Ada has to go on is that the attackers wore a royal crest, and in a divided kingdom with 5 different rulers, that's not much. Luckily, she has help, in the form of a mystical Elk which features both as her transportation and as her companion, helping to solve puzzles and aiding her in combat. Decay of Logos releases on August 30th.

Bonus: Free DLC for Human Fall Flat

Human Fall Flat is getting a new free update titled "Steam", which gives those flailing characters a whole new level to wobble through on August 27th.

That's not all for next week, and more games and DLC will release as follows:
