The crossover event between Fortnite and Borderlands goes live today.
Fortnite X Mayhem brings Borderlands to the world of Fortnite. Epic's site describes how a Rift Beacon near Paradise Palms created the Pandora Rift Zone, which "highly resembles the planet Pandora" of the Borderlands games. It seems to be more than just an aesthetic appearance, as "even the rules of the planet apply". The bonus of the Pandora Rift Zone is that players will begin to generate Shield if they haven't taken damage for 4 seconds.
The Pandora Rift Zone runs from now until September 10th, during which time players can "shoot and loot your way through the Pandora Rift Zone, take on themed Challenges for free rewards, and pick up the Psycho Bundle from the shop." The "Welcome to Pandora Challenge Bundle" is free to all, and includes "the Mayhem Wrap, Vault Hunter Banner, Psycho Spray, and Crunk Bunny Spray."
This collaboration comes alongside the V10.20 Patch Notes, in which the second item of interest was the Shield Bubble. The Shield Bubble is a rare item; a dome "that's invulnerable to projectiles and explosives". It can be found "from Floor Loot, Chests, Supply Drops, and Vending Machines" and lasts for 30 seconds. Whilst it blocks projectiles and the like, players can still run through it. There's also further modifications to the B.R.U.T.E. mechanic. Most notably, the B.R.U.T.E.’s "map icon will remain visible to all players after players board one" and the "icon will follow the vehicle as it moves." Epic stress that "This is to increase awareness of a B.R.U.T.E.’s presence and location to all players in the match."
The Fortnite X Mayhem crossover is out now, and players have 2 weeks to deal with the "characteristic mayhem" which Pandora brings.
