Gears 5, Borderlands 3, Code Vein: There's Loads to Look Forward to in September

By Heidi Nicholas, 18 days ago
Our latest poll looked at the most exciting releases for last week, from Control to The Bard's Tale IV: Director's Cut (Control won, by the way). Now that August is drawing to a close, it's time to look ahead at the coming month, and September looks to have some spectacular titles releasing. Here's what we're particularly excited about:

Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 is arguably one of the most popular upcoming releases. 2K Games and Gearbox Software have been ramping up the excitement by dropping trailers the new planets, and the new characters, Moze, Amara, Fl4k and Zane. There's also the current crossover with Fortnite. Whichever Vault Hunter you choose, your task is to team up with the Crimson Raiders against the Calypso Twins, the Children of the Vault, and everything else that wants to kill you in Borderlands 3. Will you be playing on 13th September? Who's going to be your Vault Hunter of choice?

Gears 5

There's been a lot of excitement around Gears 5 as its release date draws near, especially with the recent hints that there might be open-world exploration. Gears 5 will apparently be a two-sided story, with the first part focusing on the war on planet Sera, and the second revolving around Kait Diaz as she struggles with her mysterious necklace, trying to understand what's happening to her. Gears 5 releases on 10th September. If you're still hungry for Gears news, have a look at the latest Launch Maps trailer:

The Surge 2

The Surge 2 is as gory as you could wish. Stranded in Jericho City, you're up against soldiers, robots, nanostorms and everything else capable of attacking you. Combat is central to the game, as it's by targeting individual limbs and hacking them off your enemies that you can find the tech needed to upgrade your gear and armour, and survive a little longer. The Surge 2 releases on 24th September.

GreedFall

Greedfall is a promising contender for RPG fans to consider. You'll be taking on the role of a diplomat, leaving behind the corrupted, festering Old Continent to set out and explore the island of Teer Fradee. The island could possibly hold the cure to the Malichor Plague which is decimating the old world, but it also holds numerous native factions who are none too happy with the onslaught of settlers coming with you. Players will have to make use of every ounce of cunning to keep the peace between these different factions, not to mention the various peoples who join your party. The world of Greedfall is modelled on a 17th Century aesthetic, and you can customise your character with endless choices of armour and weapons, as well as individual styles modelled on each faction. Greedfall releases on 10th September.

Bonus: CODE VEIN

Did we say The Surge 2 was gory? CODE VEIN features some brutal combat with definite Dark Souls overtones as players fight their way through Vein. It's a post-apocalyptic dystopian nightmare, full of bloodlust and violence. Interested? CODE VEIN releases on 27th September.

That's definitely not all for September. Be sure to take a look at the poll and let us know what you're most looking forward to!

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
