Capcom's Project Resistance: Will You Be the Survivor, or the Mastermind Behind the Trap? By Heidi Nicholas, 12 Sep 2019 FollowtopicsResident Evil ResistanceResident EvilCapcom EntertainmentOnline MultiplayerAction HorrorHeidi Nicholas It's Mastermind Vs Survivors in Capcom's new Resident Evil game, Project Resistance: a 4 vs 1 asymmetrical co-op experience.A timer counts down the seconds as four people try to escape a facility and a Mastermind who's willing to test them to their limits. There's a top-secret facility in Raccoon City, where a group of four young people were captured by Umbrella and forced to undergo their experiments. The game site states how the Mastermind "aims to gather valuable research data on how the subjects respond to fear". This outlines the two options: play as one of the survivors, or the Mastermind trying to prevent their escape. The SurvivorsThe survivors are made up of a group of four young people, all from different backgrounds, all with unique abilities. Each is therefore needed for the escape to be successful. Teammates can revive each other. If they fail to do so, the character who dies will re-spawn but lose some of their time. Players can move to the next area by completing objectives, and will escape after finishing the third area in a level. Some examples of objectives are visible in the trailer, such as destroying Bio Cores and killing the security guard zombie. Samuel Jordan, Damage: "Sam has high health and excels in close-quarters combat. He was a promising boxer until sustaining a career-ending injury during a boxing match." He chose to undergo a medical trial and an experimental drug, hoping to one day be able to get back to boxing — and hasn't been heard from since then. The site lists two of his abilities as "Dash Punch: Dashes forward quickly and punches the nearest enemy", and "Fists of Iron: Uses boxing skills to give enemies the old one-two". January Van Sant, Hacker: "January can hack cameras to limit the Mastermind's ability to observe. She is a "lone wolf" and a "cynic", as well as "an expert hacker" and had been hired by the News Comet (Raccoon City's tabloid) to investigate "the illegal dealings between Umbrella and the Raccoon Police Department. She suddenly disappeared without passing on her findings to anyone". So it sounds as though she may have had some idea about Umbrella beforehand. "Overload: Disables cameras, obstructing the Mastermind's actions." "EMP: Impairs all cameras and increases the cost of using cards for the Mastermind". Valerie Harmon, Support: "Valerie is a chemist who excels in healing teammates." She graduated from Raccoon University and "joined the Umbrella research team as an intern" at NEST2, but "grew suspicious" after "her roommate began to suffer from memory disorder" after participating in a top-secret research project. "Valerie was kidnapped while searching for the cause" of her friend's illness. So these four people definitely come with different experiences of Umbrella. Valerie was a part of the organisation, and it will be interesting to see how much she discovered before she was abducted. "Survival Instinct: Marks nearby items and threats, making them easier for teammates to find". "Modified First Aid Spray: Uses a limited-duration first aid spray to heal or buff nearby teammates". Tyrone Henry, Tank: "Tyrone has high defences and excels in close-quarters combat. Working for the Raccoon City Fire Department, Tyrone went to fight a fire at an Umbrella factory, and was never heard from since. The fire department reported him as killed in the line of duty." "Power Kick: Attacks enemies in front of him with a powerful kick." "Rally: Increases the morale of teammates, decreasing damage taken for a set duration". The MastermindThere's no doubts about this character being a villain. "They secretly kidnap young people for the purposes of data gathering. By forcing these youths into desperate situations, the Mastermind aims to gather valuable research data on how the subjects respond to fear. The Mastermind will not face the Survivors directly. Instead, they observe through the security cameras," which are present around the facility, and by setting traps. The Mastermind uses cards to place traps, release creatures such as lickers and crawling zombies, and to weaponize the cameras. The Mastermind can even directly control zombies and the Tyrant, meaning players can see for themselves just how powerful the Tyrant is. The Mastermind's character name is given as Daniel Fabron, but there's no image for him; just the Umbrella logo.
