Cults, a Nanovirus and the End for Humanity: The Surge 2's Story Trailer Has it All

By Heidi Nicholas, 1 month ago
Focus Home Interactive have given us plenty of trailers recently which showcase the kind of brutal, fast-paced combat players can expect from The Surge 2. Now, their new story trailer sheds light on the mystery behind the conflict:

"Life as we know it is coming to an end". The Surge 2 isn't hanging about, and players will be thrust straight into the "beginning of the end for Humanity". We see a rocket seemingly implode in the trailer; this is, perhaps, the launch of a Utopia rocket which precedes the onset of the deFrag nanovirus. The player takes on the role of a "lone warrior" who must fight their way through the chaos of Jericho City. They'll come up against a variety of enemies, including Nano-cultists and the fighters of A.I.D; a government organisation which uses violence for control. "Athena, a girl with whom you have a special connection, leads you through the streets to a destination unknown". This is presumably the young girl who appears in the trailer. She's only visible for a brief second, but she already appears a contrast to the world around her; she looks out of place, but not at all afraid to be by herself. It seems that the player's goal will be to uncover the truth behind each of these mysteries.

Players can find out more about these mysteries when The Surge 2 releases on September 24th.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
