Curve Digital and Kuju have announced Narcos: Rise of the Cartels, a turn-based take on the popular Netflix series. It's coming to major platforms later this year. Two trailers show off the action from the perspective of the DEA and the viewpoint of the cartels.
The game will tie directly into the show, specifically the blowout conflict that took place at the end of the first season. Two separate campaigns will see players take on an overseeing role for the Cartels or the DEA as they wrestle for control in Colombia. There's a definite XCOM flavour to the turn-based action shown off in the trailers, and key players from the series will be available as unique units as the campaign progresses. Some aspects of the action are a little different to traditional turn-based strategy though — both teams will move simultaneously once a plan of action has been executed. Players will have the opportunity to take direct third-person action of units during critical moments too.
Narcos: Rise of the Cartels is arriving in late 2019 for Xbox One, digitally and physically.
We don't have them yet, but we'll publish a story as soon as we pick up the Narcos: Rise of the Cartels achievements.
