Minecraft: Xbox One Edition Owners Have Until November 30th To Upgrade to Bedrock for Free

By Heidi Nicholas,
Players who own the Xbox One edition of Minecraft have until the end of November to update to the Bedrock edition for free. The game's site clarifies that this availability ends on November 30th. The Bedrock version was initially released as the Better Together update in 2017, which allowed players to team up on multiplayer across Xbox One, iOS, Android, the Windows 10 version, Gear VR and the Switch.

To update, all players will need to do is log on to their Xbox profile on their console. Players are eligible for the update if they've played more than five hours in the last year, or bought any DLC at any point. Do either of these before the 30th November, and you'll get a 5x5 code through Xbox messaging. Mojang and Microsoft remind players that it could be a little wait to receive a code, since it might take a few weeks for their team to deal with all the redemption requests. Once updated, however, players will get the Aquatic update, along with the Village & Pillage update, and several upcoming updates too.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!

Personally I prefer the old Xbox One Edition version, the controls, the crafting and other things felt better to me. Spent heaps of time on that and actually enjoyed getting all the achievements... the better together and win 10 not so much, glad I never did iOS and the countless other versionslaugh

How do you know if you're already up to date with all this? i've flitted with minecraft alot over the years, but not really put in any grind yet. so wondering if I already have this update or not?

is there a version number attached to the game or anything to know if you already have this?

It is the new version/game with new list that you get: Minecraft

If you haven't received the 5x5 code yet you haven't fulfilled the requirements yet.

You are up to date, you can see your progress here:
Lord Von Chimp's achievements in Minecraft

If you have only unlocked achievements on the Xbox One version of Minecraft that specifically says "Xbox One Edition" in the game title on here, then you don't have Bedrock.

Thanks! It's not exacty top of my list, but would be a shame to miss out for when I finally decide to get cracking on it.

Wasn't sure, I've never got a 5x5 code, but I know I've played more than 5 hours this year lol. Unless the codes are new issue, as in starting today?

But if I'm good, then I won't worry about it! lol

EDIT: Looking at time stamps, seems it was well over a year ago I played this last, hell... where is the time gone!? lol

Question: I have the Minecraft: Xbox One Edition physical unopened. If I were to play that, I'd unlock achievements in the list for that game, and if Microsoft sent me the update code, would I be able to unlock achievement in the regular Minecraft list as well?

    Yes.

The upgrade is free if you redeem your 5 hours by Nov 30th.

    Question:
I haven't started the game yet. Is it possible to get all the Xbox One achievements for Minecraft without this Bedrock update?

Yup, bedrock edition is a completely different game than the old x1 edition.

I am hosting a realm for the new bedrock version, joinable anytime you want:
    Boosting Gaming Session for Minecraft

For the old x1 version, I need to boot up the console, friend people who want to join and do manual resets every so often, so not planning on hosting sessions for that soon again (do have a world but hosted over 20 hours of session last July/August.
