Fortnite Chapter 2 is Here

By Heidi Nicholas,
Fortnite's back. Epic sent fans into a panic with their media blackout, which included wiping all their social media. Season X ended with explosions and the map being sucked into a black hole. No one was able to get on Fortnite, nobody knew how or when it was coming back, and all anybody could see of it was a live stream of a dark and empty space. Now, Chapter 2 is officially here, complete with battle bus.

The biggest thing to note is the new island, which has 13 locations. The island is riddled with lakes and rivers, which plays into the other big change to Fortnite: water gameplay. As shown in the trailer, players can now swim, or get around on motorboats, or sit back and fish. There's a circular lake in the centre of the island feeding into four main rivers, which split up around the island, so there's always a body of water nearby. The island itself seems to be split into distinct areas. There's one area dominated by a bizarre, polluted-looking landscape, a beach at one end of the island, and what looks like snowy mountains at the opposite side.

Chapter 2 map

Players can now make use of the Bandage Bazooka to heal their squad on the go, or else carry them to a safe place. There's new emotes such as high-fives, and now players can also hide in haystacks, Assassin's Creed style, to sneak up on enemies. The map also seems to be littered with gas tanks and other explosive objects if you're inclined towards a less subtle approach. The combat system has been upgraded, and weapons can be improved at upgrade benches.

Chapter 2

The battle pass has also been changed. It costs 950 V-Bucks, but Epic say players can earn up to 1500 V-Bucks back by playing it — more than the cost of the next season's battle pass. XP can now be earned in more ways, such as completing challenges, cutting trees, and opening chests, so that there's more variety in levelling up. There's new wraps, new emotes, and new loading screens.

I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!

It's staggering how many people on Twitter in particular thought this.
Either they are dumb AF, trying to play dumb for the cameras, or about 2 years old.

It was only down about 4 minutes and people were pissing their pants. It was glorious. Took a little while for the memes and banter to kick in but I definitely enjoyed that more than a game of Fortnite BR.

The PR department needs a raise for this one. Building hype and making people (i.e. kids/parents) cry.

Give the developers a break, its still in pre-release.

The only people it sent into a panic were the streamers and Kids whose parents spent loads on Skins and Battle Passes.

This game won’t die for a long time yet. It’s a licence to print money. Wherever I turn in GAME, I see tacky Fortnite Merch & V-Bucks.

I will give Epic credit. They got people talking on Social Media & will soon be counting enough cash again to fill a vault that would make Scrooge McDuck jealous if he was real and not a Cartoon Duck.

How long has the game been out with micro transactions and a good chunk of content? There is ZERO REASON for the game to keep the “pre-release” label on it

Have they forgotten that Save The World was supposed to go free? I guess they are still making good money with it.

Looks alright but this game has died down big time as its aged, the massive sweatfest of builders it has become. Skill based matchmaking now still wouldn't help as I'd still end up matching with decent to pro players, I'm not that shit but not that great eitherlaugh

Reason it sits in beta still is so it can update the game more frequently. Update qualifications for a beta are a lot less stringent than for a full release on Xbox.
It's beginning to look a lot like glitchmas, every game I play

How pathetic, the parents should be ashamed of themselves.

I actually bought Fortnite when it originally released for the single player/PvE elements and that's all I was interested in. It was far too much of a grind and repetitive gameplay for me to invest any more time into though. I think I may have gotten to like the 3rd or 4th world and just thought that it was too much, with much better games more deserving of my time.

Then Battle Royale all kicked off and the campaign was doomed from then on. It's a shame too because the bare bones of a good game are there. However whenever someone mentions Fortnite now, no-one is talking about Save the World. It's all about this insanely popular BR mode.
