Season of Skulls is Live Now for Anthem

By Heidi Nicholas,
There are new challenges in Anthem. The Cataclysm may be over, but the Season of Skulls is live now:

The Season of Skulls is a themed event running the length of the season, and Anthem's site gives a rundown of what to expect. "As a thick and ominous fog gathers among the trees and strange sounds echo in the distance, the people of Bastion gather together to rise up against the darkness with determination, defiance, and celebration. Fort Tarsis stands proud with towering bonfires, colorful banners, and the bones of its vanquished foes – a bastion of security amid the chaos. The Season of Skulls marks a change from the grim necessity of survival to the celebration of life and courage in the face of darkness."

Season of Skulls

There's no level requirements to access the Season of Skulls content, and all players will have needed to do is complete the Incursion story, and select Season of Skulls on the Game Modes menu. Bioware say aspects of Season of Skulls will feel familiar to those who played the Cataclysm, but there are still some surprises to expect. There'll be arenas to clear for a place on the leader board, with inversions thrown in to keep players on their toes. Season-related events will also be available to those who've unlocked Freeplay. There'll also be Anomalies based on Arcanist, Freelancer and Sentinel events, followed by Boss events. The drop rate for Legendary items will be increased during Season of Skulls. Bioware also advise completing weekly challenges to unlock vanity items instead of getting them from the store. Lastly, there'll be hints about Season of Skulls hidden around Fort Tarsis.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!

I'm thrilled that they are actually still working on this. The gameplay is fantastic and the world is really great. Too bad that the first (almost) year was pretty empty. It's like buying a Lamborghini that has no engine.

Will have to give Anthem another Bash. I did not mind the game too much. If they continue to do updates like this, then hopefully the player base may increase.

Talking positively about Anthem just encourages heaps of people negging on it, so... crickets at this point—for the people who do like it—is the best response. anything else is throwing water on a grease fire. lol

Don't be silly, it's worth more than $.01. It's a beautiful game with great gameplay but doesn't have much going on after about 40 hours. But.... I wouldn't expect you to know that.

It's basically like that for every game these days. The gaming community has an extremely loud vocal minority is the living embodiment of "stop liking what I don't like"

Anthem kind of did it to themselves but the people who speak the most about how bad a game generally seem to have never played it. Like myself with Anthem buy I had different reasons.

Back on topic: My nephews absolutely love this game so I might play it with them. Been waiting for more to be added because I don't fake enthusiasm well like I would have had to do with the state it was in.

I just started playing it. It seems like a decent game. Mass Effect like shooting and combos. It seems better than where Destiny 2 is at. I bought it at launch. Ugh.

Everyone I know who played it said it was "fine". Not a ringing endorsement, but not a disaster either. And if you get 40 hours of entertainment out of it, its worth the price.

(This does not include the cost of all the wasted talent not put into new Bioware studio RPGs, but that's already a sunk cost...)

I'd love if they finally attached decent content and systems to the gameplay. But a few skins us a far cry from the total overhaul needed.

Been playing a lot the last 4 days. I am liking it. They must have fixed a lot based on all the negativity.

The big problem is there's apparently only "about 40 hours of enjoyment" there. I took about 60 to finish it entirely and then probably have logged about 20-25 more doing the cataclysm and running missions with friends. Its a game with GREAT bones, but it does get to a point where you are only grinding for better gear with not much to really dig into.

I'm hoping that they still keep on updating and adding content and making the game better. While I had things to do, I was absolutely loving it.
