Fallout 76's NPC Update Delayed Until 2020

By Sean Carey,
The Wastelanders update for Fallout 76 was revealed at this years E3. The free update adds human NPC's to the game — a much-requested feature by the Fallout 76 community. Unfortunately, Bethesda has delayed the expansion until the first quarter of next year.

Wastelanders was due to be released this Fall, but it looks like Bethesda aren't quite ready to release it just yet, as detailed on its website: "It’s going to need more time to be the best, most polished update it can be. We’ve continued to re-evaluate and change our processes to make sure the work we’re doing hits our quality bar, and yours. We apologise for this delay but know it will be worth the extra time.

"Wastelanders is turning out to be one of the largest expansions we’ve ever done, and it changes the entire world with human NPCs returning." The update adds not only human NPCs (before players could only have one-sided conversations with robots, or had to listen to holotapes for missions) but also a new main quest, dialogue trees, and player a choice and consequence system.

This game is such a joke.

We'll all be playing Outer Worlds next week while Bethesda takes over a year to take on the ambitious task of putting NPCs into a Fallout game. laugh

I played this game for all of two hours before quitting and never looking back. Thankfully it was on PC, so no achievements to worry about. laugh

Fallout 76 is the WORST game in the Fallout series. They took everything that was good about Fallout and removed from the game. Then made it an MMO and released the piece of trash to the public.

I loved this game until they locked up my inventory on multiple characters who had items that I came by honestly but were over weight limits. Hundreds of hours looting just to have to destroy items to be playable again killed it for me. That and the royal mode being tied to open world special.

How did they fuck this game up so bad? How did we go from Fallout 4 to this?

This is me. Going straight to The Outer Worlds at launch. I really want to complete F76 for the completion, but I swear it's so boring. The quests, the locations, the notes. None of it is remotely interesting, and so I'm just dragging myself through the quests. Normally I'm very lenient on rating games, but this one really isn't good. And they just delayed the one thing that gave me hope.

I really want to be done with this game. But I still need to gain 40 more levels for the last achievement. Was banking on this update to give me a “fun” way to level up. Guess not...back to grinding kills at Whitespring, etc. facepalm

Please kill this game Bethesda. It’s sad and embarrassing to see a game from a great franchise go down and down by the day.

Ps: Play new Vegas instead. From game pass today.

Given how cheap the game is, I don’t know how they are going to make any money on this free update that is taking many months of staff time and cost to develop. Only a minority of people play DLC (even when it is free) so I don’t think they will sell many more copies of a game with such a bad reputation when it releases. They could have been putting this time and money into Fallout 5 instead.

They could have just sent me a gun to shoot myself after I bought the power armor edition instead angry

Rush game to fall 2018 release: buggy and no one is happy.

Learn from your mistake and make sure not to release a buggy mess even if you have to delay the update: no one is happy.

Of course Bethesda fucked up on Fallout 76 but the gaming community can is so hypocritical and unfair. If you can't even right a wrong than why even care as a developer anymore. Certainly a good argument for Bethesda to only focus on your audience that loves the game, and chooses to keep supporting it by buying loot boxes, instead of showing the general gaming community that you do care for your product.

Go Bethesda! I am a huge Fallout fan but expected more from Fallout 76. I hope that they fix most of the issues and add an amazing update with new exciting achievements so I can go back to a game that in the end deserves a fair chance even after all the mistakes that were made.

To be fair, they've released a LOT of updates for this game and many players claimed they ignored a lot of the core issues and instead made it worse. I don't think people are being that cruel by stating that this delay is an issue. Not to mention the PR and everything else.

I genuinely feel like I've given this game a fair chance, and it deserves the low ratings it gets. Like I said, I hope this update helps, and I'm excited for it, but I'm not too hopeful.

I didn't know this update was in the works. I quit early on and extremely upset about it. Decided to revisit the game in the hopes it got better or to give it the benefit of the doubt.

It didn't. I STILL play it, but it feels like a chore..
I'd sincerely rather repeatedly play TLA for the replay value than look at this garbage they put out. It does not deserve the great fallout name.
