Xbox Game Bar Update Enables Achievement Tracking

By Sean Carey,
A new update for the Xbox Game Bar on PC has been released. With it comes a couple of new features for the overlay, including achievement tracking a new FPS counter.

Xbox game bar achievement october update

As detailed over on Xbox Wire, you can now track achievements from within Xbox Game Bar. The update allows you to pin your progress towards your next achievement as you play while pulling up the overlay (Win+G) allows you to view the game's achievement list and individual achievement details. Notifications for freshly popped achievements will also open in the Xbox Game Bar instead of the Xbox Console Companion app. To enable the new Achievement overlay, you'll have to select it from within the overlay menu at the top of the screen.

An FPS counter has been added for the Performance overlay which allows players to track frame rates, and users can now customise the look of and feel of the overlay by choosing what system resources are displayed on-screen.

If the automatic update hasn't appeared on your PC yet, you can manually install it from the Microsoft Store app.

Finally! Games for Windows Live had it. And it is strange this was tied to the app on mobile phone. It stopped me from playing games on pc in the first place as I had no certain clue if I scored an achievement or not.....

Thank God for that! Was ridiculous not knowing whether I was unlocking achievements or not...

why did they bother with an achievement tracker when they allow and simply don’t care how often games are released with glitched/unobtainable achievements?
If users on this site searched before posting, the forums would be a much better place.

Exactly, I Still plan to get a PC next month but I was Very Disappointed to see the history of Laziness when it comes to supporting achievements.

Like recently with Saints Row 4

I do like the game bar feature. Still taking some getting used to. But it is quite convenient.

Because there are more games with non broken achievements than there are games with broken ones? And it's nice to be able to track from an overlay than to boot the laggy xbox app.

Improvements are always welcome. Those under the hood and those that are visible. Well done. Stay on the track please and keep releasing PC games.

But achievement notifications/popping has been a thing for a long time now? Only the progression tracking was missing from the overlay.

So how do I get this update? I found the app in the PC store, but it says it's already installed. No update options.

Ah OK, when I went to the Downloads and Update part of the store and searched for an update it showed up.

Will the xbox one also get a FPS counter? I would love it so much ... but it sounds that feature is pc exclusive? :(

Slightly overdue but they got there in the end!

I also had to manually search for updates to trigger this.
