Much like an infant xenomorph bursting through the unsuspecting chest of John Hurt, Gearbox has exploded our torso with some exciting news today. While they've been toiling away getting ready to ship the most famous piece of vaporware ever (Duke Nukem Forever
, of course) they've also had worker bees toiling away on the on-again-off-again Aliens project. Today, they've confirmed that Aliens: Colonial Marines
will ship out this coming Spring.
Randy Pitchford, magician, funnyman, all around great guy and the President of Gearbox commented on the project with the following:
To Gearbox Software and its peers throughout the industry, ALIENS is one of the most influential science fiction properties of all time. Aliens: Colonial Marines, designed as an interactive successor to the landmark films from Twentieth Century Fox, is a dream project about which our studio is deeply committed and passionate.
Gearbox describes the game experience with the following:
Aliens: Colonial Marines begins with an ostensibly abandoned ship, the U.S.S. Sulaco, recovered in orbit around LV-426. Players lead a group of highly trained United States Colonial Marines as they board the deserted craft to uncover the fate of the crew. They will have to fight to survive unspeakable horrors and their own anxieties as they chase down the truth behind a galaxy-spanning deception that places humanity at the mercy of the most murderous and deadly species in the universe. Aliens: Colonial Marines features authentic environments, such as the surface of LV-426 and Hadley’s Hope, weapons inspired by the film series and is designed to provide an exhilarating and engaging new chapter in the Aliens universe.
The game is also touting some impressive features including the use of equipment, weapons and locations from the movies, Drop-In/Drop-Out Co-Op with up to four players, and customized loadouts and upgrades.
Finally, and possibly most importantly, Gearbox has released a teaser trailer for the game:
So, once again, Aliens: Colonial Marines
is BACK and set for a Spring 2012 release. Gearbox will also be showing a first look of the game at this week's E3 conference.
