Ubisoft Spain's Cryptic Sam Fisher Tweet Possibly Teasing a New Splinter Cell or Tie-in

By Sean Carey,
A cryptic tweet posted by Ubisoft Spain has the internet in full on speculation mode. The tweet features an image of Splinter Cell protagonist Sam Fisher and when translated says, "You need to understand the darkness to face it ... #SamFisher."

Could the tweet be pointing to a new Splinter Cell game? We aren't sure, but there has been a number of rumours surrounding a new Splinter Cell fairly recently. A replica Splinter Cell pair of night-vision goggles mysteriously appeared on the Gamestop website back in September with the description reading, “For the first time since the introduction of Splinter Cell in 2002, after nine top-selling AAA+ titles, and with the 10th release on the horizon, this is your first chance to own Sam Fisher’s signature Ultra High-Frequency Sonar Goggles." Last year a listing on Amazon for "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 2018" appeared but was swiftly taken down.

We haven't had a new Splinter Cell game since Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist, released back in 2013 on the Xbox 360. Sam Fisher recently featured in Ghost Recon: Wildlands but in a non-playable cameo role, which left players frustrated. After a teaser trailer and a lot of speculation, many thought they would be able to play as Fisher; unfortunately, he just accompanies you on a mission. Perhaps this tweet is pointing towards another cameo for Sam Fisher in Ghost Recon Breakpoint? Until Ubisoft confirms anything all we can do is speculate.

Either way, if we hear anything else of a new Splinter Cell title or a Breakpoint cameo, we will keep you updated.
