After being in beta for months, it has been confirmed that Age of Empires Online will launch on August 16th, 2011, both at retailers and on the game's website. Both the Greek and Egyptian civilizations will be available from the start, and the game will provide over 40 hours of free gameplay.

We revealed back in January that the game would have premium booster packs available for purchase so that players can extend their experience with the game. The first pack has since been announced as the "Defense of Crete" booster pack:

The island of Crete is under attack from hordes of invading Lelegan Mercenaries, and King Minos has sent out a call for help to all of his embassies in the known world! Defend the island's sacred wonders and, if successful, be rewarded by King Minos.

A price and release date has not been confirmed for the booster pack.
