I understand that when writing news reports I should be "unbiased" and "don't have an agenda". Normally I can handle that responsibility, but for this particular story, I can not help but be biased. You see, I am an Ork player that recently started a Tyranid army. Thus the title announced today by THQ, Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team
is yet another affront to players of my ilk.
Sure, I thought it was cool when THQ tied Red Faction: Battlegrounds
into the upcoming full retail title Red Faction: Armageddon
. But the fall release of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine
gets an arcade tie in? Like the Space Marines don't have enough already with their Power Armor, Dreadnaughts and Plasma Cannons?
Now we get a twin stick shooter that allows players to use the ranged Marine classes, the Sternguard Veteran (no doubt with Hellfire rounds) and Techmarine (probably packing his usual heavy bolter) or one of the melee Marines, the Vanguard Veteran and Librarian (with physic powers since he's so special). Oh, and Warhammer 40k: Kill Team
allows for two player local co-op? So more of them can slaughter the poor Orks that were innocently on their way to invading a corrupt Imperial planet? Great.
Even better, if you finish the very first mission of Warhammer 40k: Kill Team
then you, the Imperial Scum that you are, can unlock the Power Sword upgrade for your character in the multiplayer component of Warhammer 40k: Space Marine
. I have to begrudgingly admit that is a cool perk, especially given the price for Warhammer 40k: Kill Team
when it is released this July: 800 MSP.
Here's some propaganda shots from the High Lords of Terra:Now that is not an Ork, that is a Tyranid. A Hive Tyrant from Hive Fleet Leviathan based off of the carapace markings to be preciseOne Marine? 80 Tyranid Hormagaunts? It's a fair fight
Witness as well this announcement trailer to see for yourself the Imperials unprovoked attack on an innocent band of Orks:
Warhammer 40k: Kill Team
drops onto XBLA this July for 800 MSP.
