Man of Medan's Friend's Pass and Free DLC Make All Achievements Obtainable With One Copy

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man Of Medan ~ SuperHeroArt

The one problem with The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man Of Medan's achievements is that a few of the collectibles related requirements relied on finding another player online willing to not only play through the game, but to co-ordinate specific narrative actions to enable access to the trickiest collectibles. The game's Curator's Cut, previously only available as a pre-order bonus, is now available as free DLC. This means that players can sort out the trickier sequences on their own and unlock the game's collectible achievements – though they will likely still have to play through with another player at least once to get the Learning to work together achievement. Happily on that last point, the developers have also released the Friend's Pass – which allows owners to invite one friend without the game to play for free, just like EA's A Way Out. The only difference is that this Friend's Pass is only available to players who buy the game before January 6th.

As mentioned in our very excellent and thorough Man of Medan achievement walkthrough by Ace Annihilates, the Shared Story mode is not only a pain because two players have to co-ordinate in order to reach the relevant story beats that lead to specific collectibles. It's also frustratingly buggy, with many reports of players who aren't hosting the session missing out on achievement unlocks. The Curator's Cut bypasses a lot of that, by essentially offering the "second player" experience to a single player. In the normal solo story, players will inhabit specific characters at specific times, and non-player characters will react to their decisions according to the internal branching script. In Curator's Cut, the script is flipped; the player will inhabit the other character in many of the game's key conversations and moments of action. It's interesting in it's own right to view the developer's scripted responses for characters normally controlled by the player, but it also means that a single player can easily nab the remaining "second-player" collectibles needed for the following:

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man Of MedanQuite a lot of deaths that nightThe Quite a lot of deaths that night achievement in The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man Of Medan worth 244 pointsFind all of the black Framed Pictures

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man Of MedanSecrets! Lies! Conspiracies, man!The Secrets! Lies! Conspiracies, man! achievement in The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man Of Medan worth 557 pointsFind all of the Secrets

However, as far as we know, playing through Curator's Cut won't trick the game into thinking that you have completed the game in Shared Story mode. Because you're still not controlling both sides of certain conversations, there's also no guarantee that it'll be possible to unlock the following:

If you enjoyed The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan, it's worth grabbing the Curator's Cut regardless, just to see the new perspectives. However if you're struggling to get co-op sessions together or facing some of these buggy unlocks, it's absolutely worth a download to help you on your way to 100% completion.

To make use of the Friend's Pass, your friend needs to download and boot up the Trial Version of the game – which doesn't appear to have hit the Xbox Store just yet. When it does, and your friend has downloaded it, just head to the "Don't Play Alone" section of the game's Menu and invite that friend into your hosted session.

Man of Medan is currently on sale in Xbox's Black Friday event – you can see the store price below, though UK players may also want to check out Amazon UK for a bit more of a Black Friday discount.
