Stardew Valley Creator Reveals What's to Come in Huge 1.4 Update — Coming to Console Soon

By Sean Carey,
Stardew Valley's 1.4 update has gone live for PC players and is expected to hit consoles "soon." The developer Eric Barone hasn't given us an exact date for the update, but he has released a blog post that details all of the new content and features added to the game.

Stardew Valey Update 1.4

Update 1.4 brings new content and "improves the gameplay significantly" while adding community request quality of life features. Bug fixes and optimisation improvements have now made Stardew Valley "more polished than ever," according to Barone.

Barone has intentionally left out a lot of detail from the changelog and the blog to avoid spoilers. The update adds some new end-game content. All that is mentioned in the developer blog is that there's a new end-game mystery that involves an abandoned building. More character events have been added, including a new 14-heart even for every spouse. This will show more about what each spouse gets up to after marriage. Fish Ponds are a new farm building that allows players to raise fish and harvest items from them, including roe which can be processed further in a preserves jar.

A new map for multiplayer has been added. Four Corners is ideal for the separate money option in multiplayer. The map is divided into quadrants and has a different perk. This gives each player their own space to live and farm in, while still being connected.

Over 60 new items have been added, "some fun, some practical and some powerful," along with a load of new hairstyles and different clothing options. Junimo Kart has been remade, sheds can be upgraded to double their interior size, and two new monsters and two alternative levels have been added to the mines.

You can read the developer blog post that includes the quality of life changes, and the full changelog. Be warned there are spoilers in the changelog!

We don't have a firm date for when Stardew Valley's free 1.4 update will be coming to consoles, all Barone has said is, "1.4 should make it to Console & Mobile soon. I will let you know as soon as I have any concrete details on that." As soon as we get those concrete details, we will let you know.
