The Best Black Friday Deals on the Biggest Games of 2019

By Sam Quirke,
For this Black Friday, we have gone on a mission to find the best discounts in the US and UK on the year's biggest and best game releases. If there's anything sitting on your 2019 wishlist, make sure to check out the latest prices below.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order review

As we’ve just recently mentioned in our Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order review, Respawn’s venture into a galaxy far far away was a joyous success, even with a few design hiccups. It has only been out for a couple of weeks so don’t expect deep discounts on standalone copies this Black Friday; however, it is featured in several doorbuster Xbox One X console bundles. Having played the game across a standard Xbox One and an X, I’d personally say it’s a great game to show off your new hardware. Just one warning: the Fallen Order achievement list is a little bit of a trudge, with lots of collectibles hidden in its byzantine world maps.

Amazon UK: Xbox One X Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order bundle with Rage 2 and a Turtle Beach Recon 70X headset for £319
CDKeys has Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Deluxe Edition on sale digitally at $44 / £39.99 (thanks wookieepuppy)
Microsoft UK: Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order Xbox One X Bundle is down to £299.
Smyths UK: Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order Xbox One X Bundle for £24.99 a month with Xbox All Access (18 month contract)
Walmart: Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order Xbox One S console bundle for $199
Microsoft US: Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order Xbox One X console Bundle $349.99 or $30.99 a month with Xbox All Access (18 month contract)
Amazon US: Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order Xbox One X console Bundle $349.99

Control

Control E3 2019 Screenshots

Control was a critical darling that nevertheless disappeared from view pretty quickly after launch. It’s far from a bad game – some say it’s one of the best of the generation – but for whatever reason Remedy’s mind-bending action adventure just didn’t maintain a lively discussion. We had thought that its quiet reception might lead to a deep discount on Black Friday, but not so far – only a couple of places have discounted it at all, one being the Xbox Store itself. The Control achievements list is your usual action-adventure fare, though apparently it’s a bit of a grind to unlock all of the ability points.

The Outer Worlds

Ellie

One game we’re not surprised to see maintaining a high price this holiday is The Outer Worlds, Obsidian’s engaging open-world sci-fi adventure that charmed critics and gave publisher Private Division a nice financial surprise for its release quarter. Bear in mind that the Outer Worlds achievement list is a little tough thanks to a requirement to complete the game on Supernova difficulty. The cheapest way to play is of course via Xbox Game Pass, but if you’re not into that, here are a couple of other deals that we’ve spotted.

The Outer Worlds
$59.99£49.99€59.99$89.95$79.99R$249.95
The Outer Worlds

The Outer Worlds is a new single-player sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter a host of factions all vying for power, who you decide to become will determine the fate of everyone in Halcyon. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.

Amazon US: 17% off The Outer Worlds, now $49.94
Amazon UK: 19% off The Outer Worlds, now £34.99

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Screenshots

Infinity Ward’s gamble on a reboot mostly paid off, with favourable reviews for the shooter’s campaign coming in from all sorts of outlets. Unfortunately, the multiplayer has been hampered somewhat by server issues in its opening hours, respawn bugs and a shotgun that still acts like a sniper rifle even after several rounds of balancing. The Modern Warfare achievements list are entirely campaign based, apart from one title update that needs players to dive into the co-op Special Operations. It’s still well worth a go if you’re a fan of the series or the genre, especially if you can get a good price on it; as it’s still pretty new, don’t expect too much of a discount this Black Friday.

Walmart have slashed Modern Warfare prices down to $38
Smyth’s Toys have Modern Warfare on sale for £39.99

Borderlands 3

borderlands 3 zane

Borderlands 3 has been another big success for Take-Two in the latter half of 2019, along with surprise hit The Outer Worlds – the long-awaited sequel currently has a 4.5 rating from our own community. While players eagerly await a Handsome Jack themed DLC in December, they are hard at work on the fairly standard Borderlands 3 achievements list – fixed a few weeks back after reports that its final achievement wasn’t unlocking. Borderlands 3 is also a little new to be getting lots of deep discounts, though Best Buy have a pretty impressive one.

Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled

Crash Team Racing Trophy List

Crash Team Raching: Nitro Fueled might have been a bit of a cynical cash-grab after the run away success of the remastered N.Sane Trilogy. But it still resonated with fans of the early days of PlayStation, sitting at a healthy 4.28 rating from our community. The Crash Team Racing achievements are a bit of a challenge, though – players will have to beat all of Nitros Oxide’s Time Trial records.

A Plague Tale: Innocence

PLague Tale

A Plague Tale: Innocence would be a great gift for a gamer who likes a deep, dark story and an immersive atmosphere, so it’s a shame that this fairly overlooked gem isn’t on a deeper discount this season. Still, Amazon has it at a record low price on both sides of the pond, even if that low price isn’t quite where shoppers would like it to be. The A Plague Tale: Innocence achievements are a little bit of work, but luckily our community have worked out that you don’t need to complete a full second playthrough if you miss some of the collectible and upgrade requirements.

A Plague Tale: Innocence down to £27.45 in the UK
Amazon US: A Plague Tale: Innocence discounted to $29.99

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man Of Medan ~ SuperHeroArt

Supermassive Games’ schlocky choose-your-own-horror-adventure is a little short and janky for my tastes, but it’s a harmless enough thrill ride for those who like their B-movies to stay as B-movie as possible. The only truly scary part for me was the Man of Medan achievement list, which requires a heck of a lot of co-op and patience. Luckily a recent free DLC and the introduction of a Buddy Pass makes the co-op aspect a little more palatable. The Xbox digital store actually has some of the cheapest prices around in any region, so consider going digital for this one.

The Dark Pictures Anthology is a series of stand-alone, cinematic horror games. Each game features a brand new story, setting and characters, with a fully branching narrative. Mortal Kombat 11

Screenshots

It’s not exactly had a lot of competition, but nevertheless Mortal Kombat 11 is the fighter to beat this year. The latest instalment of the veteran, notoriously gory series is credited with fixing a lot of the problems of the past, earning a very sturdy 4.47/5 from our community. The Mortal Kombat 11 achievement list is anywhere near as troublesome as many other games in its genre, but it does require a little bit of a grind.

Gears 5

gears 5 most successful xbox games studios title

Gears 5 had a weird mix of reasonable critical success and total multiplayer chaos at launch, leaving many fans and newcomers alike on the fence with their opinions. With more content on the way in December, many are hopeful that the game can find its second wind – especially those wanting the matchmaking lobbies to stay healthy on their way through the latest Seriously achievement. Gears 5 is of course cheapest via Xbox Game Pass, but for those reluctant to move away from permanent ownership, here are some other offers.

Need for Speed: Heat

Need for Speed Heat ~ SuperHeroArt

Need for Speed Heat might not be quite up to Forza standards, but in a relative racing drought this Christmas it’s perfectly good enough as a present for the motorhead in need of a gaming fix. Like a lot of the game’s elements, the Need for Speed Heat achievements list borrows heavily from Forza Horizon, requiring collectibles to be smashed through and 3-star completions to be attained on all Activities.

The Division 2

Tidal Basin

The Division 2 is maintaining a relatively decent player base, but it certainly didn’t light the world on fire, with lots of teething issues and delays keeping the more casual players away. It’s still well liked by its own community though, earning a 4.2 / 5 from TA members. The Division 2 achievements won’t be an easy task for those looking to jump in; a requirement for hijacking a Dark Zone extraction is proving tough enough to maintain a 6.6 TA ratio on site.
