Xbox Consoles Beat Nintendo Switch to the Top Spot in UK Black Friday Charts By Heidi Nicholas, 03 Dec 2019 CommentsBlack Friday has been and gone, and now the smoke has cleared we can see who came out of it best. According to Gamesindustry.biz, in the UK, that would be Xbox; which outsold the Nintendo Switch and the PS4. We've had our own roundups of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, most of which show Xbox bundles and deals at a deep discount. In the UK, the Xbox One X was bundled together with games like Fallout 76, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Forza Horizon 4, with about a £150 discount overall. The All-Digital Xbox One was the most popular, but about 100,000 Xbox Ones were sold overall. Whilst Microsoft did sell the most consoles over Black Friday, and beat the Nintendo Switch, the gap apparently wasn't that big. There were "just a handful of consoles" between the sales of the Xbox One and the Switch, even though the Switch wasn't discounted by anywhere near as much. The gap was much bigger between the Xbox One and the PS4; Sony sold over 60,000 PS4s, with the most popular bundles including FIFA 20 and Modern Warfare. In general, sales are down for both the PS4 and Xbox One as opposed to 2018, but as this is the end of life period for these consoles, and their next-gen successors are looming on the horizon, perhaps this isn't so surprising. It's not 100% clear where this information is coming from – particularly the "just a handful of consoles" comment – but we'd assume it's from UKIE (The Association for UK Interactive Entertainment) based on another Gamesindustry.biz chart. This includes a list of the Top Ten games for the week ending on November 30th. Sea of Thieves is up high, likely because as GI.biz pointed out, it featured pretty heavily in bundle deals. Last Week This Week Title4 1 FIFA 201 2 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare2 3 Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order23 4 Sea of Thieves24 5 Minecraft: Xbox Edition3 6 Pokémon Sword7 7 Mario Kart 8: Deluxe5 8 Pokémon Shield6 9 Luigi's Mansion 38 10 Marvel's Spider-ManGI.biz's data also indicates that in terms of game sales, the PS4 was most successful; with just under 500,000 games sold in the Black Friday week, as opposed to Xbox's 417,176. So it seems that most people shopping for games bought them for the PS4, whilst those shopping for consoles mostly purchased the Xbox One. It's important to note that, as with all charts, the data is not necessarily exhaustive – these are retail charts, so some Cyber Monday sales may not be included and not all digital game sales will be represented.Did you pick up any good deals over Black Friday and Cyber Monday? I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
