Vote Now for January 2020's TA Playlist Game

By The TA Playlist Team,
Playlist January 2020

Welcome to the newest iteration of the TA Playlist.

As mentioned in the last announcement, our monthly game club is back! Thanks to the support of both the community and staff here on TA, the Playlist will continue on into the future with our new hosts. As such, TA Playlist will be continuing in essentially the same way as before. Each month, four games are selected with a common theme, and the community will vote on their favorite title for us to play and discuss. Nothing will be automated and the winning game will continue to be the one with the most votes. The playlist has always consisted of a poll for the community, and we want to assure you that this has not changed.

But before we begin, we’d like to first pay tribute to Mark along with his co-hosts, Will, Kevin, and Sam, for all the blood, sweat and tears they’ve put into developing and running this fantastic community event. It’s been three whole years since the start of the Playlist, and it wouldn’t be here today had they not poured their hearts into it.

Of course, with the new iteration comes a new TA Playlist team as well. So feel free to welcome the new members, Miles, Nici and Chewie. With the old team moving on to greater things, our new hosts will continue to bring all the themes and games that will be fighting for your vote.

We’ve been working hard to accumulate new ideas to keep the Playlist fresh. And, as per usual, we’re keeping these ideas open to the community, so feel free to share your recommendations via the TA Playlist Hub.

We're riding 2019 into the sunset with Red Dead Redemption 2 for our final game of the year, but we’re looking to take it back a notch for the beginning of 2020. January’s list consists entirely of indie games, all of which are Xbox Game Pass games. With that in mind, it's over to you to help us decide which game will kick off the TA Playlist in 2020!

Here are your four choices for the month of January:

Dead Cells

Dead Cells (Win 10)

Dead Cells, a self-described roguevania, meaning it’s a roguelite metroidvania hybrid, uses a permadeath system. Taking place on a sprawling, ever-changing island, you are the Prisoner, a failed alchemical experiment trying to figure out what's happening all around you, and discover the secret of the seemingly cursed island. Check out the Dead Cells achievements list to see how the community is faring with it. (It has a separate list on Windows 10 too.)

The Talos Principle

29/08/2018 - Carousel

A first-person story-based puzzle game, you play as an android in a beautiful world. You’re welcomed to the world by a disembodied voice, imploring you to explore and complete puzzles around the island, but something seems off. Will you discover the secret? More importantly, will you get through The Talos Principle's achievments list? (Another game with an extra Windows 10 achievements list).

Creature in the Well

Creature in the Well

A top-down, pinball-inspired, hack-and-slash dungeon crawler, this game is as unique as it sounds. As the last remaining BOT-C unit, venture deep into a desert mountain to restore power to an ancient facility, haunted by a desperate Creature. Uncover and upgrade powerful gear in order to free the city of Mirage and face the ominous, all-seeing Creature. Check out what you might be getting yourself into with the Creature in the Well achievements list – only one list for this one, though it is Play Anywhere across Xbox and PC.

Afterparty

Afterparty Achievements

In Afterparty, you play Milo and Lola – recently deceased best buds who suddenly find themselves staring down an eternity in Hell. But there’s a loophole: outdrink Satan and he’ll grant you re-entry to Earth. Time to go on the best bender ever as you drunkenly stumble through their story that changes, using an intelligent conversation system, and controls your characters relationships with every decision. Afterparty is the new release from Night School Studio, developers of previous Playlist favourite, OXENFREE. Check out the Afterparty achievements list to see just what Hell has in store.

As mentioned above, all four games are currently on Xbox Game Pass. If you don’t have Xbox Game Pass at the moment, don’t fret! We’ll be choosing games throughout the year that have been featured in Games with Gold, as well as plenty of titles both new and old. If you want to join in on the cheap though, it's worth noting that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is still only £1 or $1 for three months:

Ultimate 3 Months
$44.99£32.99€38.99$47.95$49.99R$119.99
Ultimate 3 Months

Xbox Live Gold and over 100 high-quality games for one low monthly price. Play together with friends and discover your next favorite game. Joining Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will upgrade your remaining Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass for Console or Xbox Game Pass for PC time into Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for the same amount of time, up to 36 months. All conversions are final. See xbox.com/gamepass for details.

Finally, once again, we’d like to thank all of the members of the community that continue to support the TA Playlist every month. Thanks to you, the playlist will continue to grow, and we can continue to interact with all of the amazing members on the site. We hope that all of you will participate in the club once again and come to chat with us about your favorite titles.

The TA Playlist is a monthly community event. Everyone votes on which of four games to play, and then we all play through it in the following month. There's a dedicated hub to discuss everything about the game, from story beats to gameplay tips – and of course, you can track your achievement progress during the month as well. TA Playlist was created by Mark Delaney and is now run by Miles, Nici and Chewie.
