id Software has never been one to joke around. They have made Wolfenstein, Quake, and Doom, all first-person shooters that helped revolutionize the genre.
The next game they're using to make a sizable footprint in the overly-saturated FPS market is RAGE
, a shooter that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world ruined by an asteroid.
Gamers take a hold of a player who has awoken from his or her Ark with no memory whatsoever. Arks (they are like storehouses) are the direct result of the Eden Project, an international project where individuals gifted with special abilities or traits are stored away and will eventually come together and rebuild society. Upon controlling your character, you notice that the Eden Project seems to have failed as there are no other survivors but yourself. With no memory or objective, you make your way up to the surface and explore.
Bethesda Software released a video today with 7 minutes and 50 seconds of actual gameplay . Upon watching it, one can easily tell that id Software has been working on the game since 2007. The trailer "takes you to The Well. The town of Wellspring is being terrorized by a bandit clan threatening to poison the town's water supply and they need your help. The ransacked well must be infiltrated and the bandit threat of lethal contamination must be stopped."
will be available in North America on September 13, 2011 while Australia and Europe will have to wait until September 16.
