Fortnite's Latest Update Adds Split Screen

By Heidi Nicholas,
Epic have released the patch notes for Fortnite's latest update, v11.30. The biggest change of v11.30 is the introduction of split screens, which enables players to play Duos and Squads together on the same Xbox.

Epic emphasise that this is an early version of the split screen feature, and they're still working on improving it. They're asking players to report bugs when they find them. The update also includes some new features to allow players to preview shop items. The Party Hub lets players have a look at what's new in the Item Shop before starting up the game, by opening up the Party Hub, swiping right, and choosing "Preview Items". The gifting limit for the Item Shop has been raised from three to five. Another noticeable change is that the ammo indicator has been adjusted; it'll now be a visual representation of the ammo left, rather than just a solid bar. A range of bugs have also had fixes rolled out in v11.30. The Magma Wrap's been fixed so that it appears correctly on both the Bandage Bazooka and the Pistol. For Xbox One in particular, an issue which had the Safe Zone setting returning to 1.00 after every login has now been fixed. Bandolette's Outfit has also been sorted, so that it no longer seems to have two hairstyles merged into one. There's also a fix for the bug preventing trees and metal fences from giving the right material increase in Arena.

This isn't the only Fortnite news we'll be seeing today. Epic have teased that they'll be making a "special announcement" tonight at the Game Awards, which kicks off tonight at 5:30 PM PT/8:30 PM ET / 1:30 AM GMT. Fortnite is currently nominated for several categories, such as the Ongoing Game category for a game with "outstanding development of ongoing content that evolves the player experience over time" and the Community Support category for games with "outstanding community support, transparency and responsiveness." The nature of Epic's "suprise announcement" remains to be seen. The only major news we've had about the game's future recently is that the first season of Fortnite Chapter 2 has been extended until February next year.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
