All you Star Trek: Legacy fans
fan will have to wait, Paramount Digital Entertainment has announced a brand new Star Trek game slated for 2012 that they'll be showing off next week at E3 called... Star Trek
Continuing where director/producer J.J. Abrams' 2009 series reboot left off, Paramount promises an "unprecedented" co-op adventure as players take control of Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock themselves "to stop a legendary enemy race bent on conquering the galaxy." "Legendary" may or may not be an euphemism for "Klingons again", but the game does in fact feature an original story penned by the BAFTA bearing God of War scribe Marianne Krawczyk, along with help from the film's writer/producers Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman.
Development is being headed up by Digital Extremes (Bioshock 2
, Dark Sector
, The Darkness II
) with an eye to authenticity as they're working closely with Abrams' Bad Robot production company and fellow LOST creator Damon Lindelof. Paramount's President of Digital Entertainment, Tom Lesinski, just happens to think the team will deliver "AAA production values, a wide variety of gameplay and all the action you would expect from the hit franchise. This will be the definitive Star Trek gaming experience."
