The Rise of Skywalker: Star Wars Battlefront II's New Free Update Begins Tomorrow

By Heidi Nicholas,
The Rise of Skywalker is the next update for Star Wars Battlefront II. It goes live tomorrow, and is themed around the last Star Wars movie, which also releases this week. It's free to all players, and has a new jungle planet, four new sequel era reinforcements, and new Hero Appearances. There'll also be two new ships, and BB-8, as well as his dark side equivalent, BB-9E, in January.

It's worth noting that whilst the rest of the update releases tomorrow, December 17th, the new planet won't release until this Friday, the 20th December. The new ships, along with BB-9 and BB-9E, will follow in January. The news post doesn't say much about the planet, except that it's a jungle biome and that Star Wars fans might have glimpsed it in the most recent trailer for The Rise of Skywalker movie. It'll be for Co-Op, where players can be either the Resistance or the First Order, and for Heroes vs. Villains. Takodana, Jakku, and the Starkiller Base will also be added to the Co-Op, and all these planets will have both attack and defend scenarios.

The four sequel era reinforcements are the red-armoured First Order Infiltrator class Sith trooper, with advanced weaponry and speed, the First Order Jet Trooper Aerial Reinforcement, with a grenade-attatchment enhanced blaster rifle, and two new alien species from The Rise of Skywalker: Gunner and Spy, who fight for the Resistance. Finn, Rey, and Kylo Ren will all get new Hero Appearances themed around The Rise of Skywalker, which are included in the Celebration Edition, or can be purchased with Credits or Crystals.

In January, the Capital Supremacy will be introduced via two new capital ships: the Resistance's MC85, or the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer. They'll be stationed above the new jungle planet and Jakku. In the same month, BB-8 will be introduced as a new hero character for the Resistance, whilst his dark side counterpart BB-9E will be avaialble for the First Order.

EA say that in the new year they'll check back in with details about what's coming in February and March.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
