Twelve Days of Christmas 2019 Stats Round-Up

By Sean Carey,
This year's Twelve Days of Christmas Challenge has once again proven to be a success with many TA members joining in on the fun and completing twelve days worth of achievement-related challenges. We had some exciting and varied challenges set by the Community Events Team, challenges such as "Three French Devs" where you had to unlock three achievements from games developed by French developers. "Six Secret Cheevos" which involved only unlocking secret achievements and "Twelve Gamers Spelling," a challenge where you had to spell out the words FELIZ NAVIDAD through the medium of unlocking achievements.

Twelve Days of Christmas 2019

We've delved into some of the more interesting stats to see which games and achievements were the most popular across the event and just how many of you completed the full twelve days and what hurdles some of you fell.

Twelve Days of Christmas 2019 Overview

A total of 5373 TA members signed up for the Twelve Days of Christmas Challenge 2019, but only 2184 (42%) participants completed the full twelve days. The event started off strong with 4923 completing the first "One TA Cup of Coffee" challenge. However, the second day is where we see a significant drop-off. Over 1000 of you didn't complete the "Two Free to Play" challenge, leaving just 3919 TA participants to press on. Days 4, 5, 6 and 7 seem to be where the numbers levelled out. Across those four days, we only lost 247 people. From there, there is a consistent daily drop of around 200 players a day until we get to the last challenge "Twelve Gamers Spelling" where 2184 brought home the gold and completed the full twelve days.

10 Quickest Gamers to Complete the Challenge

Some of you wasted no time at all completing the final (and arguably the hardest) challenge. The "Twelve Gamers Spelling" task had you spelling out FELIZ NAVIDAD in order. This requires a bit of research on your part and finding achievements that begin with a letter in the word. Two TA members managed to complete this challenge in under an hour. Doc Block PhD popped 12 achievements in a blistering 21 minutes and 5 seconds, followed by Osmo76 who also completed the challenge in 49 minutes and 6 seconds.

Top 10 Games by Number of Achievements Unlocked

Looking at the top 10 games by the number of achievements unlocked, the most common trend here is that nearly all are included in Xbox Game Pass with the exception of Crypt of the Serpent King. The game which had the most unlocks during the challenge was Halo: The Master Chief Collection. And with its 700 achievements and its inclusion in Game Pass, it's not surprising that many of you chose this game to complete some of the challenges — a total of 12293 achievements were unlocked in Halo MCC over the twelve days.

The second game with the most achievement locks was Wandersong with 5854. Wandersong could have been used across three different days to complete those challenges. The achievements are all listed as secret, perfect for challenge 6, "Six Secret Cheevos." Wandersong is in Game Pass, so ideal for challenge 7 "Seven Game Pass Darlings" and it has seven achievements flagged as cumulative, allowing you to almost complete Challenge 8, "Eight Redone Actions." Wandersong's achievements can also be grabbed in a matter of minutes using a cheat code, so it's no wonder that the adventure title was a popular choice across the twelve days.

Crypt of the Serpent King seems to have done so well as every achievement is flagged as Difficulty Specific, making it a shoo-in for Challenge 11 "Eleven Bolts of Lighting." Not to mention it's a cheap game to buy and also a relatively quick completion.

Both Life is Strange and Life is Strange 2 saw some decent numbers over the challenge. Life is Strange was a great game to use for the first three challenges of the event. Nearly all of the achievements were flagged as collectables meaning you could complete the first challenge (One TA Cup of Coffee). The first episode is also free and therefore considered Free to Play for the second challenge (Two Free to Play). And finally, Life is Strange was made by the French Developer Dontnod, meaning you could complete the third day's challenge (Three French Devs) with relative ease.

Most Common Achievement Used for Each Daily Challenge

The most commonly unlocked achievement across the twelve days was Bard Kicker! in Wandersong with 359 unlocks. This is presumably because of the cheat code that can be used in-game. One other achievement of note is Welcome to The Eliminator in Forza Horizon 4 for the Ten Open Worlders challenge. The Eliminator update was added to Forza on December 12, and it looks like 148 of you jumped into the battle royale mode to unlock an achievement for the tenth challenge.
