There Won't be any Xbox Game Studio Series X Exclusives Until at Least a Year After Launch

By Sean Carey,
Microsoft has no plans to release any first-party exclusive titles for the Xbox Series X until at least a year after the console's launch. All of Xbox Game Studios' Series X launch titles will be playable on the Xbox One, according to Head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty.

In a recent interview, Booty told MCV to expect games to be released on both Xbox One and the Xbox Series X, "As our content comes out over the next year, two years, all of our games, sort of like PC, will play up and down that family of devices. We want to make sure that if someone invests in Xbox between now and [the Series X] that they feel that they made a good investment and that we’re committed to them with content."

Microsoft will still be taking full advantage of the power of the Series X with some of its IPs at launch. Halo Infinite — which is launching across both generations of Xbox — will be making the most of the latest hardware, "Our approach is to pick one or two IP that we’re going to focus on and make sure that they’re there at the launch of the console, taking advantage of all the features. And for us, that’s going to be Halo Infinite, which is a big opportunity. It’s the first time in over 15 years that we’ll have a Halo title launching in sync with a new console. And that team is definitely going to be doing things to take advantage of [Series X].”

Booty also holds high ambitions for Xbox Game Studio titles in the future, "We need to make sure that we hold the bar high on quality, and that we’re releasing games that we can be proud of and that the fans can be proud of as Xbox exclusives. We need to continue building characters, stories and worlds that can transcend generations, devices and platforms."

We don't have a firm release date for Xbox Series X only that the console will launch holiday 2020. We will probably hear more at E3 this year in June. Here is everything we know about the Xbox Series X.
