Phil Spencer Confirms We'll Be Seeing Xbox At E3 This Year By Heidi Nicholas, 14 Jan 2020 CommentsSony caused a few ripples with their announcement that, for the second time in a row, they wouldn't be at E3. Phil Spencer, meanwhile, took to Twitter to confirm that Xbox will definitely be at the E3 event in June later this year.Sony's absence from the last E3 prompted discussion over the future of the event, who would show at the next one, and how much we could expect from it, but Spencer's tweet seems enthusiastic about what this year's E3 will hold. The fact that the Xbox team is "hard at work on E3", ready to share "what's ahead" for them, and that "2020 is a milestone year" in "creativity and technical progress" seems to promise big news. 2020 is a key year for both Microsoft and Sony, with their Holiday 2020 release date of their next-gen consoles drawing ever closer, so it would make sense for Xbox to show up at E3 in a big way. They certainly did last year, where they announced 14 Xbox Game Studios titles, added 20 games to Xbox Game Pass, and showed off around 60 titles throughout. Since 2020 is an such an important year for Xbox, perhaps we can hope for even more surprise reveals.Xbox certainly seem determined to expand in areas such as their Xbox Game Pass subscription service, as well as their Xbox Game Studios. There's already 15 studios under the Xbox umbrella, and Spencer says they're slowing down acquisitions — although he's still keen to expand into Asia. Xbox Game Pass, meanwhile, has been upping its game (sorry) recently, with more additions and bigger names joining the Game Pass roster. Most recently, Rockstar's GTA V joined the service as a surprise addition, and Microsoft's recent hiring opportunities suggest a new focus on both Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass studios. Perhaps Spencer will take this year's E3 as an opportunity to reveal more of what they're planning. Spencer also took the opportunity to respond to a fan in the comments about what else was important to him at events like E3: "The fans are an amazing part of E3 every year for me and the team. Respecting and talking with the fans is such a special part of the show each year."This year's E3 will take place from June 9th to June 11th.Xbox One Written by Heidi NicholasHey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
