Infinity Ward decides to extend Season One of Modern Warfare

By Heidi Nicholas,
Infinity Ward says they're extending Modern Warfare's Season One into February, to allow for the new items, challenges, and playlists coming to the game. Season One will now end on February 11th.

They say that the new items, challenges, playlists, and remixed game modes will be coming over the next few weeks, along with more in the Store. One of the in-game Challenges will have the option to earn the Crossbow weapon. They emphasise that this is a one-time extension, purely to make room for the new content. There'll be 2XP, 2X Weapon XP, and 2X Tier Progression during this time, which Infinity Ward say will help "get you ready for an exciting Season Two". Meanwhile, the latest playlist update for Modern Warfare brings back Shoot House 24/7, which in turn replaces Shipment 24/7. There's also now a 3v3 Gunfight mode. Infinity Ward don't say whether this is replacing the 1v1 Gunfight mode brought in last week; however, 2v2 Gunfight was still available even after 1v1 was brought in, so presumably 1v1 will still be available now. There's also a "Same Day Delivery" Playlist, which reintroduces the Cranked and Drop Zone modes. Gun Game is also now in the Quick Play Filter.

Earlier in the week, Infinity Ward announced that they would be donating net proceeds from their renamed Outback Relief pack, to go towards the efforts currently underway against the bush fires still devastating Australia. Funds from those who've already bought the pack will be donated. Ubisoft Australia have also donated, as have Bungie, and Crytivo, the developers behind The Universim.

We don't yet know when Season Two starts, or whether its start date will be delayed as a result of the Season One extension. We'll keep you updated.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
