Konami could be planning a revival of the Silent Hill series By Heidi Nicholas, 22 Jan 2020 CommentsRecent sources reported on by Video Games Chronicle suggest that Konami is set on bringing back the Silent Hill series — and that there's more than one Silent Hill game already in the works. The Silent Hill franchise has had an exceptionally bumpy path already, plagued with the potholes of cancellations, shifts in development teams, and an uncertain future. The last we had of anything to do with Silent Hill was P.T., the infamous demo for a new Silent Hills game, which went up as a free download, became massively popular, and was taken down following the cancellation of the game. Hideo Kojima, who most recently is best known for his divisive Death Stranding, was initially involved in Silent Hills with Konami – along with Death Stranding's Norman Reedus, and Guillermo del Toro. Following the release of Death Stranding, Kojima has several times referenced his desire for his next project to be themed around horror, but since his split from Konami in 2015, it's not a given that he would be involved with any new Silent Hill content. On the other hand, given how much he had a hand in what proved to be a massively successful demo, it would make sense to bring him in for the franchise's future. It's also not yet clear whether the murmurings about these new games are true, and, if they are, what they would be about. Yet VGC have also referenced tweets from someone they refer to as a recognised industry insider. This insider seems fairly confident that not only are Konami working on new Silent Hill material, but that there were "a couple of new Silent Hill games in the works": one apparently a reboot of the franchise, and the other claimed to be an episodic game to go alongside the reboot. Again, none of this has been officially confirmed, but there are promising signs. As pointed out by VGC, Masahiro Ito, the art director for the first three Silent Hill titles, tweeted earlier this year that he was working on a new title. He couldn't say anything about what it was or who he was working on it with, but he did say, "I hope the title won't be cancelled." Ito hasn't even confirmed whether this project is in collaboration with Konami and the Silent Hill franchise or not, but that last comment could be a nod to the cancellation of Silent Hills, and the removal of its hugely popular demo, PT.We'll keep you posted if we learn more. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
