Episode 3 of The Division 2 has you searching for a cure on Coney Island

By Heidi Nicholas,
Episode 3 of The Division 2 is a free update arriving in February. It takes players to Coney Island in search of a cure to the virus — but the scientist who has it is already under the control of the Black Tusk.

The scientist who might be able to help with a cure is heavily guarded by the Black Tusk, and there's "no time for caution" in getting him out. The trailer shows a jarring contrast between the constant combat and prolific use of flamethrowers, and the neon lights and carnival atmosphere. Neither the trailer nor the site for the Division 2 gives us much detail about what to expect; we don't even yet have a specific release date, just that Episode 3 will arrive sometime in February. Those with the Year 1 Pass will get a week's early access to the episode. It seems we'll have to wait for more details about what players will be up to, but Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment have instead detailed the new Firewall Specialisation coming with the update.

The K8-JetStream Flamethrower Signature Weapon fires a wall of flame, fire damage, and burn effects to those in the radius of the attack. The Firewall specialisation pairs up with a Striker Shield skill mod, which buffs you and those taking cover behind you for increased damage. The Firewall will have a new Specialisation tree and a sidearm: the Firestarter sawed-off shotgun. As with previous Special Field Research, the Firewall Specialisations and the Flamethrower are unlocked by taking on and completing the five stages of in-game challenges, while those with the Year 1 Pass will unlock it immediately. This means that if Year 1 Pass owners still choose to undertake the Special Field Research, they'll get additional and exclusive rewards: the Firewall Safety Helmet, Shirt, Pants, and Mask. The Caldera and Basalt weapon skins, Lava Lake and Tremor Gear dyes and the Mundane Signature Weapon Skin are also available to unlock.

We'll keep you up to date with what you'll be facing in Episode 3, and when it's going to release in February.

Hey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
