Xbox new releases this week: Bayonetta, Kingdom Hearts, Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2

By Sam Quirke,
As we hit the middle of February, we're gearing up towards more and more game releases in 2020 ahead of some anticipated big blockbusters. We've decided to start rounding up the releases each week, letting you know a little bit about them and, most importantly, where you can see the achievement list.

DCL: The Game

DCL: The Game Achievements

DCL: The Game Achievements: 39 achievements
Release date: February 18th

DCL is a prominent professional league for racing drones, and this is the first official game tie-in. Up to 30 pilots can compete online across 27 tracks, unlocking 60 customised drone skins and trails. Whether this new market in competitive racing can find itself an audience on game consoles remains to be seen, but there's no reason to assume this will be terrible – Climax Studios have made some solid franchise tie-ins in the past, from Adventure Time's Pirates of the Enchiridon to the Assassin's Creed Chronicles games.

Bayonetta

Bayonetta Achievements

Bayonetta Achievements: 50 achievements
Release date: February 18th

Surely Bayonetta needs no introduction? An iconic character that arguably first put Platinum Games into the mainstream gaming culture, Bayonetta is a gun-toting witch taking on the forces of good and evil. The hack-and-slash combat is reminiscent of Devil May Cry – unsurprising, as it was designed by Hideki Kamiya. Whether this tenth anniversary re-release can reignite the excitement that the original game brought out in its fans remains to be seen, but at the very least it's a chance to earn another stack of achievements. Whether we'll see more of Bayonetta on Xbox is currently unknown – the third game is currently being developed as a Switch exclusive.

Bayonetta
Bayonetta

Experience the genesis of the Bayonetta series with the cult classic, original action-adventure game. The tantalizing Umbra Witch rises from the depths after half a millennium in slumber with no recollection of her mysterious past. Immediately thrust into battle, she must vanquish her countless enemies to piece together the truth.

Vanquish

Vanquish Achievements

Vanquish Achievements: 50 achievements
Release date: February 18th

The second PlatinumGames entry on this list is also celebrating a 10th anniversary, hence the bundled re-release for current generation consoles. A third person shooter rather than Bayonetta's hack-and-slash, Vanquish nevertheless had a unique angle on combat thanks to the protagonist's BLADE tool, which can scan and copy other weapons in the environment, storing up to three at a time. It's also much loved for the fact that players can power-slide about all over the place while engaging in combat. It's as over-the-top as one would expect from PlatinumGames, but without a stand-out character design like Bayonetta's Vanquish never hit the same heights in terms of gaming pop culture. Perhaps this re-release will intrigue fans of the studio's later work.

Vanquish
Vanquish

The hit sci-fi shooter returns. An overpopulated Earth suffocating under limited resources looks to Providence, the solar-powered space colony for support. When Providence is suddenly taken over by a mutinous group and its technology used to devastate cities, it’s up to a specially trained unit of space marines to reclaim the colony.

KINGDOM HEARTS - HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX

KINGDOM HEARTS - HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX - Achievements

KINGDOM HEARTS - HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX Achievements: 197 achievements
Release date: February 18th

Kingdom Hearts already dominated our headlines yesterday thanks to the reveal of its whopping achievement list. Kingdom Hearts III was received relatively warmly on Xbox, especially among series fans, so there was a lot of excitement about the fact that the previous entries in the series were going to come to Xbox too. That could have meant picking through the labyrinth of spin-offs, cinematic shots, and bridge-building smaller experiences that make up the Kingdom Hearts canon. Mercifully Square Enix have done the hard work by bundling all of the relevant pieces of Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 into a single bundle, hence that 4,000 gamerscore. If you've somehow missed what Kingdom Hearts is, it's basically a mash-up of JRPG character design with licensed classic Disney characters and worlds, wrapped in a light hack-and-slash action-RPG shell. It's weird, it's obtuse, and it's well loved by its fan-base – but it might be a little hard to digest for a total newcomer.

KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue

KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue Achievements

KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue Achievements: 69 achievements
Release date: February 18th

So if 1.5+2.5 is the definitive collection of content related to the first two Kingdom Hearts games, what the heck is 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue? Good question! The primary purpose of this smaller collection was to remaster and port the 3DS game Dream Drop Distance, itself an entry in the Kingdom Hearts canon following the events of Kingdom Hearts II. Birth By Sleep is a very short episode of gameplay, while Back Cover is a cinematic film. All three experiences can be seen as a bridge between Kingdom Hearts II and III, which to be fair was a pretty big gap. There's another 2,000 gamerscore on offer here too.

Bunny Parking

Bunny Parking Achievements

Bunny Parking Achievements: 20 achievements
Release date: February 19th

The title of this debut Xbox One title from DillyFrameGames should be taken pretty literally – you play as a bunny, and you park cars. Specifically, you move badly parked cars by kicking them. Not to editorialize too much, but it's perhaps the most horrifying looking game I've seen this year so far outside of peoples' creations in Dreams. From the weird jelly-like car physics to the upsetting central character, with some odd shamanistic carrot rituals thrown in for good measure, it's a lot to take on.

It also seems to be pretty easy, so that's something. Achievement Land is on the case as always, and thanks to their video walkthrough you can get your own taste of the horror.

Unsual 3d parking puzzle with kicking mechanics. Kicking is fun! Kick a car from the parking lot alone or with friends. And don't think that it will be easy.

Lost Artifacts

Lost Artifacts Achievements

Lost Artifacts Achievements: 12 achievements
Release date: February 19th

Lost Artifacts is a super casual strategy/simulation game, in which players build a city and manage its resources in order to unlock ancient secrets. Two of its sequels are already on Xbox as of last year, but this is essentially your garden variety casual mobile game given a quick port. If the sequels are anything to go by, this should be a relatively quick completion – expect to see some guides go up in the coming weeks.

Lost Artifacts — Restore the ancient city and defeat the dark priest!

Thief Simulator

Thief Simulator Achievements

Thief Simulator Achievements: 23 achievements
Release date: February 19th

Here's a pleasant surprise – this debut Xbox title from Noble Muffins, which we had never heard of in the office until the achievements dropped, actually has some decent ratings on Steam. Rather than pitting you against Fort Knox compounds or corrupt governments like most thieving stealth games, Thief Simulator focuses on the simpler smaller crimes of breaking and entering in sandbox neighborhoods. This detailed simulator takes into account security, schedules, gadgetry and offloading your goods to a fence, and of course avoiding the police. Reviews on Steam have mostly just referred to the fact that the game is simple fun, if a little small in its current iteration. So far it looks like only a few reviewers have gotten their hands on the game, so we'll have to wait and see whether the achievement list is obtainable and how easy it'll be to master.

Ailment

Ailment Achievements

Ailment Achievements: 10 achievements
Release date: February 21st

Uh-oh, it's another pixelly rogue like! This one has a sci-fi twist and follows an unlucky spaceship crew man whose crew have inexplicably turned against him. The game does have a pretty solid 4.4 rating off of 15,000 reviews for its Google Play iteration, but whether it's worth the bump up to home consoles remains to be seen. Cheevo Guides reckons you can be done with it in 40 minutes or less if you follow a guide.

Ailment
Ailment

Ailment is a pixel-art action game that takes place on a spaceship in a galaxy far, far away. The main character wakes up in a spaceship after being unconscious for three days and all of his crew became enemies. He has to remember what happened and find out the truth.

Draugen

Draugen Achievements

Draugen Achievements: 13 achievements
Release date: February 21st

Draugen is described as a "Fjord Noir" mystery set in Norway in the twenties, and while it looks like a fairly striaghtforward walking simulator type of experience there is at least the added wrinkle of having a companion to talk to throughout your investigations as you search for your missing sister. Like many examples of the genre, there's a dark mystery to uncover beneath all the pretty visuals, centred on the unreliable protagonist's past. What we don't know yet is whether, like most of the genre, it'll be an easy completion. We're going to bet on "yes".

Draugen

Draugen is a single-player, first-person Fjord Noir mystery set in 1920s Norway. Explore a forgotten coastal village in your search for your missing sister, accompanied by your independent and enigmatic young ward.

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2

Fortnite v11.30

Release date: February 20th
Fortnite is finally ready for another Season after its big reboot and an extended first chapter – none of which has helped the game climb back on top of the Xbox Gameplay Chart, where it used to dominate.

After a lot of speculation Epic finally confirmed the release date of Fortnite 2.0's second season, though they haven't released any further details. Get ready to get hyped – or mute your Twitter feeds – this Thursday as we expect a bunch of in-game shenanigans and gameplay twists will herald the start of a new season.

CODE VEIN's second DLC

Code Vein DLC Hellfire Knight

CODE VEIN Achievements: 43 achievements in the base game
Release date: Late February

Soulsborne adjacent ARPG CODE VEIN kind of fell out of sight after release despite decent player and critic reviews, but it's still chugging through its Season Pass content. The second DLC is due to drop in late February, which could mean it turns up this week. We haven't heard anything about it yet, though. It's unlikely to have achievements as the last drop didn't include them, but it should bring some new bosses and weaponry into the mix for fans who are still playing.

That's everything we've picked up on this week! Have you heard about any other releases dropping? Will you be trying out any of this week's offerings? Let us know!
