Respawn CEO speaks out on Jedi: Fallen Order's buggy launch By Heidi Nicholas, 20 Feb 2020 CommentsStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has done well since release, garnering good reviews from players and critics alike. But the game definitely had some issues with bugs when it initially launched, which Respawn's CEO says even prompted a conversation among the team about delaying it. Speaking to USGamer, Respawn's CEO Vince Zampella said: "it was a conversation that we had and we decided that we wanted the game out there, we wanted to get it, you know, being out for the holiday...It's a game that really fits that timeframe." It makes sense that Respawn were hoping for November in particular; Star Wars hype was at a higher pitch than ever, since the final instalment of the Skywalker saga, The Rise of Skywalker, would be releasing not long long after the game. Director Stig Asmussen weighed in on the conversation: "I think we're in a situation [where] we're trying to build a game for several different systems and we wanted to hit a date, obviously...we all look at it, and earnestly we feel like we could, if we had a little bit more time, it would've been better. But at the same time, we could play through it. It was good and we felt like fans were going to like it."Players came across a number of bugs; freezes, crashes, Cal falling straight through the floor. Respawn was pretty quick to get patches out, and the bugs didn't seem to stop players from enjoying the game. Our own site review gave it a 4/5, calling it a "genuine new hope for Star Wars narrative gaming". Just recently, EA's latest earnings call showed that Fallen Order has already surpassed the sales they were expecting for the whole financial year. USGamer says that neither Asmussen nor Zampella gave any details about what's next for the game. It's more than likely, given the game's rousing success, that we'll be seeing DLC or a sequel at some point in the future. As for something a little nearer on the horizon; fans are still waiting for a New Game + mode for Fallen Order. We'll let you know when Respawn give any details about that.Xbox One Written by Heidi NicholasHey, I'm Heidi! I've just finished studying a Masters in English Literature, but I've been obsessed with gaming since long before then. I began on the PS2 with Spyro, before graduating to the Xbox 360 and disappearing into Skyrim. I'm now a loyal RPG fan, but I still like to explore other genres — when I'm not playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or being lured back into Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3!
